Feeding on the Living One

Daily bread on the table, a quiet reminder to receive the life of Jesus, not just the recipe.

John 6:57 says that the Son lives because of the Father, and that the one who feeds on Him will live because of Him. A. B. Simpson points us beyond gathering more information to receiving living nourishment from Jesus Himself. Truth matters, and yet truth becomes food when the Holy Spirit makes it real within. That is where life rises, where comfort and strength move from the page into our moments.

I am grateful for Simpson’s reminder. Many of us already know the verses, the outlines, and the right answers. Still, there are days when the soul is thin. The invitation is not to try harder, but to receive the Living Bread and let His life be the source. Jesus does not offer a concept. He offers Himself.

This is the life of abiding in Christ. To feed on Him is to trust that His indwelling presence is enough for this hour, and to consent to His life expressing love through us. Knowledge keeps its value, and yet it becomes nourishment as the Spirit applies it to the heart.

So today I welcome this gentle call. Less stockpiling of ideas, more receiving of the One who is our life. Less anxiety, more attention to Jesus who lives in me and lives through me.

Journal Entry: Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I am your life. As the Son lives because of the Father, you who feed on Him will live because of Him. I draw your attention to the One who is the bread of life, and I teach you to remain in Him so that you bear much fruit. You died with Him, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Him. I strengthen you in the inner person so that Jesus dwells in your heart by faith, and I work in you to will and to act according to the Father’s good pleasure.

I remind you that you are a new creation. Old things have passed away. I unite you to the Lord in spirit. My presence in you is sufficient for this day. I give life and peace as your mind is set on the Spirit. I make the word living and active in you, and I supply everything needed for life and godliness.

Feed on the Living One. Turn your attention to Him throughout the day. Remain in His love. Present yourself to God as one alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness. I am faithful to complete the good work begun in you.

Real-Life Analogy
Think of a fresh loaf on the table. Reading the recipe does not nourish anyone. Slicing a warm piece, adding a little butter, and eating it brings real strength. In the same way, skimming another page may not steady your heart. Receiving the life of Jesus does. Trust the Holy Spirit within you to make truth into food, and let His life be the energy behind your words and choices.

Try this today. Before you have that conversation … you know the one; pause and turn your attention to Jesus who lives in you. Say, Lord, I trust You to be my life in this discussion. Express Your patience and clarity through me. Then speak with a calm tone, concise words, and kindness as you trust Him to guide your words and tone.

Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that Jesus is the bread of life, and that in Him I have everything I need for this day. Thank You that I have died with Him, and my life is hidden with Him in You. I receive Your provision within. Your Spirit makes truth living in me. I present myself to You, glad to be an instrument of Your righteousness. Lord, I trust You to live Your life in me and through me as I walk through each task today.
