Under His Wings, Steady Today

David treasures the lovingkindness of God and pictures it like a safe shadow where weary people can rest. Bob Hoekstra points us to Psalm 36:7, where men and women draw near to the Lord and find shelter under His wings. This is not a small comfort. It is the kindness of God in action, mercy holding back what we deserve, goodness pouring out what we need.
I read these verses and notice how practical they are. Calamities come. Enemies trouble. Anxiety knocks. In each case, the invitation is the same. Come close. Take refuge. Rejoice in the shadow that covers you. Not by hiding from life, but by staying near to the One who guards you in it.
Jesus shares the same heart. He longed to gather people close, like a hen covering her chicks. Some would not come, yet the invitation remained. For those who do, the song changes. Joy rises under those wings. Confidence grows, not from self protection, but from His faithful care.
Today, I am thankful for Hoekstra’s gentle reminder. The lovingkindness of God is precious. It is a place to trust, a place to stay, a place where grace meets the day with steady peace.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I draw you near. My lovingkindness is precious, a wide shadow where you can rest. Trust under My wings. I keep you as the apple of My eye. I hide you when trouble circles. I am your refuge until the storm passes by.
I gather you with compassion. I would not cast you away. Come, and I will cover you. Under My wings you will rejoice. I uphold you with steadfast love. I quiet fear with My nearness, and I teach your heart to sing even when the wind is loud.
I am faithful to you today. Stay close. Let your confidence be in Me. I am your shelter and song. I am the Living One who keeps you.

Real-Life Analogy
Picture a sudden downpour. You step under a wide awning while the rain hammers the street. You still hear the storm, but it no longer soaks you. Living under the lovingkindness of God is like that. The Holy Spirit, present within, steadies your heart and expresses the patience and calm of Jesus through you while the weather does what it will.
Try this today. Before a meeting that usually stirs worry, pause and step, by faith, under that awning. Say, Lord, I trust You to live Your life in me and through me in this moment. Then move forward expecting His peace to shape your tone, His kindness to guide your words, and His steadiness to carry you through.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You for Your lovingkindness that shelters me. Thank You that in Jesus I am welcomed near, guarded, and glad. I receive this day under Your wings. I present my thoughts, words, and work to You with gratitude. Lord, I trust You to live Your life in me and through me in this moment. I rejoice that Your Spirit expresses patience, honesty, and peace through me as I abide.
