Trust That Thrives When Heat Rises
Trust is connection, and the power is the Lord within.

Jeremiah sets a fork in the road right in front of us. We either lean on human strength, or we place our weight on the Lord. Bob Hoekstra reminds us that the results could not be more different. When we make people and our own willpower the center, life grows thin and dry. When we entrust ourselves to the Lord, life becomes steady and fruitful, even when the sun is blazing.
The prophet paints a simple picture that lands close to home. Trust in man dries the soul. Trust in the Lord steadies the heart. One path breeds worry when pressure rises. The other gives green leaves and quiet confidence, even in a drought. Hoekstra’s insight dovetails with the life of abiding in Christ. The point is not to try harder. The point is to draw from Jesus who lives in us.
This is not self-improvement with Bible verses taped on top. This is Jesus as our life. The Spirit within supplies what our effort cannot. Anxiety loses its grip because our source is no longer our own muscle. Our source is the Lord who does not run out.
So today is simple, not easy, but simple. We can keep measuring ourselves, or we can keep receiving from Him. We can keep pushing in the flesh, or we can keep trusting the Lord who indwells us. As we do, fruit shows up in ordinary places, emails, conversations, deadlines, and delays, because the living Christ is expressing His life through us.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I am in you, and I invite you to place your trust in Me, not in human strength. Set your heart on Me, and you will be like one planted where supply never fails. Heat will come, but fear will not master you. Drought will visit, but anxiety will not steer you. I am your peace and your provision.
As you received the Lord Jesus by faith, keep walking in Him by faith. Root your thoughts in who you are with Him. You were crucified with Christ, and you now live by the life of the Son of God. Consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God. Draw near with confidence, for you already stand in grace.
Let your mind rest on Me. I keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Me. Do not be anxious about anything. In everything, turn your weight toward Me, and My peace will guard your heart and mind. My life in you is righteousness, peace, and joy. I am the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
You do not need to power your own transformation. My divine power has granted to you all things that pertain to life and godliness. Christ in you is the hope of glory. Walk with Me step by step. I sustain you. I renew you. I bear fruit through you that remains.
Real-Life Analogy
Think of plugging your phone into a charger at night. The phone does not strain to make electricity. It simply connects, and the power flows. In the same way, the indwelling Spirit of Jesus supplies what you need as you trust Him. You do not manufacture patience, wisdom, or courage. You stay connected, and He expresses those qualities through you.
Try this today with something specific. A tense email lands in your inbox. Before you type, pause and say, Lord, I rely on You to communicate through me in this reply, guide my tone and timing. Then wait a moment, draft slowly, and let the peace of Jesus set the pace. Connection, not willpower, will shape your words.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that in Jesus I already stand in grace. Thank You that Your Spirit lives in me as my constant supply. I affirm that my life is not sourced in my own strength. I rest in the finished work of Christ, and I receive Your peace for this day. Thank You for fruit that remains as I trust You. Thank You that heat and drought do not define me. You do.
