River, Not Reservoir: Letting Christ’s Love Flow Through You

From His spring, not my store.

There is a difference between holding love and letting it flow.

I used to live like a reservoir. I wanted to love well, so I gathered everything I could—patience, kindness, forgiveness, endurance—and stored it like water behind a dam. But when life demanded more than I could give, levels dropped. The cracks showed. I felt the emptiness that comes from loving in my own strength.

Then the Holy Spirit taught me the way of the river. Jesus said, “Whoever believes in Me, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38) A river doesn’t strain to hold; it abides in motion. The source never runs dry. Fresh grace arrives as quickly as it’s given away.

Abiding life is not stockpiling resources to face the next crisis. It is trusting that the Source Himself abides within. Christ upstream, me downstream. His compassion moves through my words, His patience through my pauses, His mercy through my actions. Love flows—not because I have enough, but because He is enough.

Reservoirs measure their capacity; rivers rest in their connection. The more they flow, the fuller they become. That is the rhythm of grace.

You may feel drained today, poured out by people or pressures that seem endless. You are not broken; you are simply not meant to be a tank. You are meant to be a channel.

Let His love be the river, your heart the channel, not the reservoir.

Prayer of confidence

Lord Jesus, You are the spring that never runs dry. Let Your love flow through me freely. I release the need to be enough and rest in Your abundance. From Your source, through my life, into the world—let grace keep moving.
