Held, Watched, And Brought Home
A weathered lighthouse holding steady as waves rise, a quiet picture of years held in a stronger hand.

Elijah did not schedule his departure. He did not extend his lease on life by personal authority. Scripture simply says that the Lord would take Elijah to heaven by a whirlwind. Today’s reading reminds me tenderly that our times are in God’s hands. We live as stewards, not landlords. That truth does not shrink life. It steadies it.
Charles Cowman urges us to live watchfully. Time has its way, yet heaven’s harvest is growing even as we age. That picture helps me. The clock measures minutes, but the Lord measures fruit. If the Lord Jesus is the Captain, even a storm rocked vessel will arrive at shore. No one gets tossed overboard because the waves were high.
Samuel Rutherford adds a gentle confession. Communion with Jesus can be sweet, and still we may feel our love is small. He is rich in mercy, and we are often thin in faith. That honest line comforts me. The answer is not to stare harder at my performance. The answer is to lean on the Lord who has much light for bleary eyes.
Thank you, Nick Harrison, for gathering voices that turn our hearts toward hope. We can entrust both our years and our finish line to the Father. We can grow old with our eyes lifted. We can face unknowns with calm. The same Jesus who sailed with His disciples is with us, and He knows how to bring every passenger home.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I am the Holy Spirit, and I dwell in you. I teach you to number your days so that you gain a heart of wisdom. I testify that your times are in the Father’s hand. I point your eyes to Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life. Because He lives, you also will live.
Do not fear the boundary lines of this life. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. To be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord. I seal you for the day of redemption. I bear witness that neither death nor life can separate you from the love of God in the Messiah. I strengthen you in your inner person so that you may endure with patience and joy, giving thanks to the Father.
As the outer self wastes away, I renew the inner self day by day. I teach you to set your mind on things above where your life is hidden with the Anointed One in God. I remind you that to live is Christ and to die is gain. I keep your hope firm. I comfort you in every affliction so that comfort overflows to others.
Walk watchfully. Serve gladly. Encourage the fainthearted. When storms rise, remember that Jesus is in the boat. I give peace that guards your heart and mind. When your race is finished, I will usher you into the presence of the Lord with joy.
Real-Life Analogy
Think of riding a city ferry during choppy weather. The deck sways, the spray hits your face, and the shoreline seems far. You do not manage the wheel. You trust the captain who knows the channel. You find a steady rail, breathe normally, and let the vessel carry you.
Aging and uncertainty can feel like that crossing. The Spirit of Jesus keeps you steady while the Lord charts the way. If you have a medical appointment today, you might whisper, Lord, I trust You to pilot me with calm. Let Your patience and clarity move through me in that room. Then arrive a few minutes early, answer questions plainly, and treat the staff with kindness. Let the Lord hold the wheel while you rest your weight on His care.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that my life is a trust from You and that my future is secure in Jesus. Thank You that the Holy Spirit seals me, renews me within, and keeps my hope bright. Thank You that storms do not decide my destination. I receive Your peace for this day. I rejoice that whether I live or die, I am the Lord’s, and You will bring me safely home.
