On to Maturity
Growth in Christ comes through the steady nourishment of His Word.

Today’s devotional from Miles Stanford reminds us that the Christian life is built upon one unshakable foundation, the Word of God, both written and living. It warns against trying to sustain our walk on shifting emotional experiences or temporary blessings. Instead, our life in Jesus is meant to grow steadily, grounded in His Word and enriched by an ever-deepening knowledge of Him.
The writers point out that some believers stop at the joy of their new birth, failing to press forward into the fullness of life that flows from the risen Lord. Salvation is not the finish line, but the doorway into an inheritance meant to be explored and enjoyed. Our growth is not measured by bursts of excitement, but by an ongoing, Spirit-led progression into the richness of God’s truth.
The devotional also calls for trust in God’s timing for our growth. While we might become impatient with ourselves, He knows exactly what pace to set for our maturity. Each season, whether filled with joy or difficulty, is designed to shape our hearts to value Jesus above all else.
Finally, we are reminded that the enemy would prefer us to chase experiences over Scripture, keeping us from the steady, Spirit-taught study of the Word. Our only sure nourishment is the truth of God’s Word. Nothing else can substitute for it.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I have called you not only to be born again, but to grow up into the fullness of My Son. My Word is your life. It is the food that strengthens you and the light that guides you. Do not settle for what you first received; press on into all that I have prepared for you.
You have been born of imperishable seed through My Word. You have also been raised with My Son into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. Trust Me with the pace of your journey. I know when to give you milk, and I know when to give you solid food. I lead you in ways that shape your soul to treasure Jesus above all else.
Do not be distracted by passing emotions or fleeting experiences. They are not your anchor. Let your roots go down deep into My Word, for it is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, and it will train you in righteousness. Fix your eyes on My Son and follow with a steadfast heart. I will bring you by the right path, even when you cannot see the destination.
Your maturity is not in your hands alone. I am the One who began the good work in you, and I will bring it to completion. Keep walking with Me, and you will grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Real-Life Analogy
Think of learning to play a musical instrument. At first, you may only know a few notes, and your progress feels slow. Over time, with consistent practice, your hands find the right keys almost without thinking, and melodies begin to flow. The growth was never in the rare moments of inspiration, but in the steady, faithful practice.
In the same way, your spiritual maturity develops through a consistent intake of God’s Word, even on days when it feels routine. Inspiration will come and go, but His Word will steadily train your heart. Today, as you encounter a decision, a conversation, or a moment of uncertainty, you can yield to Him and say, “Lord, I trust You to work through me in this moment according to Your truth.”
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, I thank You that You have begun a good work in me and that You will bring it to completion. I praise You that my growth is not built on emotions, but on the unchanging truth of Your Word. Thank You for feeding me exactly what I need at the right time. I rejoice that You lead me on the right path, shaping my heart to value Jesus above all else. I rest in Your wisdom and timing, knowing that You are my Teacher and my Life.
