Love and Loss: The Weight of What Isn't Ours

Letting go of what isn’t ours makes space for the peace that only honesty brings.

This morning’s reflection from Witness Lee presses gently yet firmly into one of the most sensitive areas of the heart—how we handle money. The Word doesn't say money itself is evil, but the love of money—a disordered craving—is a root from which all kinds of evils grow. It quietly shifts our allegiance from Christ to control, from generosity to self-preservation, from integrity to compromise.

The devotional brings a call to personal righteousness in financial matters, not from a place of legalism, but from the sincerity of a Spirit-led life. Borrowing and never returning, claiming what isn’t ours, evading taxes, or ignoring debts—these aren’t small issues. They reveal how much we trust the Lord with our provision and how much we truly love others.

To love well means we owe nothing but love (Romans 13:8). And that includes walking in honesty. Not for guilt’s sake, but because the life of Christ within us is truth and cannot coexist with hidden unrighteousness. As believers, we are called to make things right—not to earn God’s love, but to express the life of the One who already lives in us.

✍🏼 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

I have not hidden from you the weight of truth, because I love you too deeply to let you walk in shadows. If anything remains unsettled, I shine My light not to shame you, but to lead you into the joy of clear conscience.

I am not measuring you by ledger lines or tax returns. I am looking to see whether My love has found room in your heart—whether My righteousness is free to express itself through you.

When you hold onto what is not yours—be it by silence, delay, or evasion—it burdens you more than you realize. But when you return it, confess it, or release it, you are untying knots that have quietly hindered your freedom. You were made to walk in the light, to be transparent, to live openly before Me and others. This is where joy flows.

You are not under law but under grace. And grace makes you sensitive—not defensive, not dismissive, but responsive. If I point to a debt, a misstep, or a mishandled moment, it is not to crush you but to release you. I will walk with you as you make it right. Your heart will grow lighter with each obedient step, and your faith will deepen as you watch Me provide.

Let love be your only debt. Let truth mark your journey. Let peace flood the places where guilt once lingered. For you are Mine, and I am making you whole.

🧾 Real-Life Analogy

It’s like holding onto someone else’s coat, knowing it doesn’t belong to you. At first, it feels like comfort—warm, secure, even helpful. But over time, it becomes a burden. Every time you wear it, there’s a subtle unease. The moment you return it, there’s relief. You hadn’t realized how much you longed to be free until you gave it back.

🙏🏼 Prayer of Confidence

Father, thank You that in Christ, I’ve already been made new. I don’t need to justify what I’ve mishandled or hide what You’re gently uncovering. You are not condemning me—You are freeing me. I trust You to guide each step as I walk in the light of truth.

Thank You that I owe no one anything but love, and that even in matters of money, Your Spirit enables me to walk uprightly. What once seemed like loss now becomes gain, for nothing compares to the peace of walking in Your light.
