Alive to God, Free from Sin’s Grip
The law of the Spirit of life in Jesus has opened the door to freedom, releasing us from sin’s captivity.

The writers in today’s devotional remind us that freedom in Jesus is not just a theological truth but a living reality. Romans 8:2 declares that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. What God accomplished through His Son becomes real in us as we lay hold of it by faith. The Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, makes this truth personal and experiential when we believe it and yield ourselves to Him.
L. L. Legters points out that though we may not always sense the reality at first, faith thanks God for what is true regardless of feelings. As we continually thank Him for our union with Christ, the Holy Spirit leads us into deeper experience. What begins as faith soon blossoms into a living testimony: “I am free from the law of sin and death.”
C. H. Mackintosh takes this further by reminding us that holy living flows out of this truth. We are dead to sin and alive to God. It is impossible to say that a Christian must continue in sin as though nothing changed. To live that way would deny the reality of having died with Jesus and being raised with Him into newness of life. The reign of grace has replaced the reign of sin, and this grace bears fruit in holiness.
Both contributors affirm that Christianity is not a cycle of sin and despair but a victorious life of grace. The secret lies in standing by faith in what God has already done. When we rest in that reality, the Holy Spirit makes it alive in us, producing holy fruit and freeing us from sin’s mastery.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
My child, I have made you free in Jesus. The law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Do not live as though you are still bound, for the chains have been broken. You are united with My Son in His death, burial, and resurrection. Sin no longer reigns over you, for you are under grace.
Do not measure this freedom by your feelings, but by My Word. Believe what I have declared and thank Me for it. As you trust, My Spirit makes this truth your daily experience. You walk in newness of life because you share in the risen life of Jesus.
You are not called to live in cycles of defeat. I have called you into victory, not by your effort, but by My power at work within you. Stand in this truth. Yield to My Spirit. As you do, holiness becomes the natural fruit of your life, for Christ in you is your life.

Real-Life Analogy
Think of a bird that has been trapped in a cage but the door has been opened wide. At first, the bird may still hop around inside, unaware that freedom is already provided. Only when it trusts the open way and takes flight does it experience what was already true. In the same way, sin no longer holds us captive. The door has been opened in Jesus, and the Spirit invites us to live as free children of God.
Today, when I am tempted to think I am bound to old patterns, I can say, “Lord, I trust You to live Your life through me in this moment of freedom.” By resting in Him, I step into the open sky of grace where sin has no claim.
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, I thank You that in Jesus I am no longer under the law of sin and death. You have placed me in the law of the Spirit of life, where freedom is my reality. I rejoice that my old self was crucified with Christ and that I now walk in His resurrection life. I rest today in Your Spirit, confident that sin has no dominion over me, for I am alive to You and free to bear holy fruit.
