Held By the Living One

The Living One steadies the shoreline of my day.

Revelation 1:17 to 18 records John falling at the feet of the risen Jesus, then being lifted by His reassuring hand. Today’s reading in His Victorious Indwelling gathers words from Jonathan Edwards and Jeanne Guyon that echo that same kindness. Edwards describes being overcome by the excellence of the Son of God. Guyon speaks of deep peace when every desire settles in God. Nick Harrison’s curation points our attention to the Living One who steadies trembling hearts and realigns the will in love.

I read their lines and nod. I know how quickly my inner life races after lesser things, then feels thin. The witness of these saints is simple. When Jesus fills the horizon, fear loosens and the will grows quiet. Purpose becomes clear, not because we tightened our grip, but because His hand rested on us.

This is a call to lift the gaze. The One who is First and Last holds the keys and holds me. As attention turns to Him, anxiety shrinks. As trust deepens, love flows outward. Fruit is not forced. It ripens because the Spirit is present.

So I receive this day as a gentle invitation. Look up. Remember who keeps you. Let the inner weight shift to Jesus, from pressure to presence, from effort to abiding.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I steady you. When you are overwhelmed, I place My hand upon you and quiet fear. You died with Christ, and your life is hidden with Him in God. I have raised you with Him and seated you with Him. Set your mind on things above where He is, and I will guard your heart with peace that surpasses understanding.

I remind you who you are. You are a new creation. I bear witness that you are joined to the Lord in spirit. I form the will to desire what pleases the Father. As you abide, I shape love that is pure and active. I strengthen you in the inner person so that Jesus dwells richly in your heart by faith, and you know the breadth and length and height and depth of His love.

I direct your steps. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Consider Him, and do not grow weary. Present yourself to God. Walk by the Spirit. The love of God is poured into your heart. Perfect love drives out fear, for the Living One is with you.

Real-Life Analogy
I think of a home thermostat. When the set point is low, the house slowly cools and everyone reaches for a sweater. When I raise the set point, the furnace responds and warmth spreads without me hovering over the vents. Setting the mind on things above works like that. The indwelling Spirit of Jesus responds as I turn the inner set point toward the Living One. Heat returns, not from strain, but from His faithful supply.

Try this today. Before you step into a hard task, pause and reset the set point by looking to where Jesus is. Whisper, Lord, I trust You to live Your life in me and through me in this moment. Then move forward with a settled heart, expecting His love to show in patience, kindness, and truthful speech.

Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that the risen Jesus places His hand upon me and says, do not be afraid. Thank You that my life is hidden with Him, that Your peace guards me as I look above, and that Your Spirit works within me to will and to act according to Your good pleasure. I receive this day as a place for Your life to shine through me. Lord, I trust You to live Your life in me and through me in this moment.
