Filled to Overflowing
Like a lamp filled with fresh oil, the believer shines with the fullness of God through the indwelling Spirit.

F. B. Meyer draws our attention to the truth found in Ephesians 3:19, that we are invited to be filled with the fullness of God. He writes that the happy person is one who does not step into the day without embracing the Spirit’s fullness. This is not a one-time experience but a continual posture of receiving. Meyer emphasizes that God’s anointing, like fresh oil, abides in us, teaching us and drawing us into the secret of abiding fellowship with Jesus Himself.
Meyer also points out that in the Christian life there are times when we sense “leakage” or greater need. Service may exhaust us, or new doors of ministry may stretch us beyond what we have known. In these moments, we do not need to dig deeper into our own resources but return to the same divine source. There, the Spirit refreshes and renews us. Just as oil replenishes a lamp, the Spirit supplies again what is needed for the path ahead.
He gives a vivid reminder through the story of Dwight Moody, who was once asked why he kept seeking to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Moody simply answered, “Because I leak.” That honest reply captures the essence of dependence. We are not reservoirs but vessels, constantly needing and constantly receiving. The fullness of God is not stored up once and left untouched, but experienced moment by moment through abiding fellowship.
Meyer’s reflection brings freedom. Being filled with God’s fullness is not an achievement we guard jealously but a gift we continually draw upon. In Christ, we already have access to every resource of heaven, and through yielding to the Spirit, we experience that abundance afresh in the situations of daily life.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
My child, I have not left you empty. You are filled with My fullness in Jesus. The Spirit I have given you abides forever and teaches you all things. Yet I call you to walk in continual dependence, drawing from Me moment by moment.
Do not be surprised when you feel weak or stretched. These are opportunities to yield afresh and discover My sufficiency again. I am the One who renews your strength, who fills you with joy, who empowers you for every good work. The Spirit within you is My gift, an endless supply that never runs dry.
Come to Me not in striving but in trust. Each morning, yield yourself, and each day I will show you the secret of abiding fellowship. What you release to Me, I fill with Myself. What you surrender, I make fruitful. You are a vessel of My life, carrying the treasure of Christ within you, and through you My glory is displayed.

Real-Life Analogy
Consider a rechargeable lamp. Left unplugged, its light eventually grows dim, no matter how brightly it once shone. But when connected again to its source, it shines with renewed brightness. In the same way, our lives are not meant to run on yesterday’s supply. We live in constant connection with the Spirit’s fullness.
Today, when I sense weariness or emptiness, I can quietly yield and say, “Lord, I trust You to live Your life through me in this moment, knowing that Your fullness is my sufficiency.” In doing so, I step into the joy of being continually replenished by His presence.
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, I thank You that in Jesus I have been given the fullness of God. I rejoice that Your Spirit abides in me as an endless supply, teaching me and leading me into fellowship with You. I rest in the truth that I do not live on stored reserves, but on Your present, moment-by-moment provision. Today, I walk forward with gratitude, knowing that You are my fullness and my life.
