Continuous Contact, Not Crisis

Resting on the charger, a quiet picture of steady contact with Jesus through the day.

Many of us know the scene from Genesis 32. Jacob wrestles till daybreak, then limps into a new name. J. Sidlow Baxter uses that moment to help us see a common pattern. We chase spiritual highs, then fade back to the old average. We live on the battery system, charged by a conference or an all night prayer push, then drained again.

Baxter points us to a better way. The Christian life was never meant to run on a battery. It was designed for the electric circuit principle. We do not generate the current. We keep contact with the One who lives in us. Through steady fellowship, the life of Jesus animates our ordinary hours.

I am grateful for the clarity. Crisis moments happen, and God meets us there. Yet for most days, the Holy Spirit forms a quiet habit of attention. Regular prayer times, meditation in the Scriptures, simple consecration, and clean choices, these keep the contact fresh. The power is His. The connection is ours to enjoy.

Thank you, Nick Harrison, for curating this helpful word. It lands with hope. You and I can step into a day that is not stop and start. We can live in unhurried contact with the Lord who never runs out.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I dwell in you. Abide in Me, and you will bear fruit. Apart from Me you can do nothing, yet united to My Son you are complete in Him. Walk by the Spirit. Set your mind on things above where Christ is seated. Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart as the word of Christ dwells in you richly.

I invite you to constant fellowship. Pray without ceasing. Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful with thanksgiving. Present your body as a living sacrifice. I work in you to will and to act for My good pleasure. Draw near with confidence. I supply grace and mercy in time of need.

I steady you when you feel spent. Those who wait for the Lord renew strength. My grace is sufficient. My power is made perfect in weakness. Do not grow weary in doing good. In due season you will reap, since you are My workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that I prepared beforehand, that you should walk in them.

Real-Life Analogy
Think of a phone on a magnetic charger. When it rests on the pad, power flows. Lift it off and the battery begins to drain. Life in Jesus is like that. The indwelling Holy Spirit supplies the current when we stay in contact. The power is not in the effort of holding still, it is in the connection itself.

Try this today. Before you open your laptop or start the school run, take ten quiet seconds and place your heart back on the charger. Say, Lord, I trust You to keep me in living contact with You as I answer emails and speak to people. Then move ahead expecting His patience and honesty to flow through you.

Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that in Your Son I am already united to You. Thank You that Your Spirit lives in me and that grace does not flicker on and off. I receive this day as a gift. I welcome steady fellowship, not quick spikes. Lord, I trust You to keep the connection warm and to express Your life through my words, my work, and my rest.
