Heavenly Treasure in Earthen Vessels
Fragile, glowing, and full of light — a reminder that what we carry matters more than what we are made of.

This morning’s reflection from Bob Hoekstra draws our attention to the stunning paradox of grace — that the Lord chooses to place His divine treasure, Christ Himself, within fragile, breakable clay pots like us. Though we have been made new in spirit, our physical bodies remain subject to weakness, limitation, and vulnerability. We are still “earthen vessels,” made of dust and easily cracked by the pressures of life. Yet, instead of discarding us, the Lord has chosen to fill us.
What a tender and liberating truth: God does not expect us to act like marble statues or polished silver goblets. He delights to express the excellence of His Son through our weakness, not in spite of it. The purpose of the vessel is not to display itself, but to contain and reveal what’s inside — and for us, that treasure is Jesus Christ. As He lives His life through us, the power clearly belongs to God, not to the vessel. And this is exactly how He intends it.
Rather than hide our fragility or pretend to be more than we are, we can rest in the reality that we are containers for glory. His life in us — His fragrance, power, and hope — is the divine mystery made visible through ordinary lives. This isn’t a message of striving, but of abiding. Not performing, but containing.
Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit
I chose you for this. You, just as you are — dusty, human, unimpressive in the eyes of the world — and I have placed within you the treasure of My own life. I have never asked you to be the source, only the vessel. I am not ashamed of your weakness. I created you as a jar of clay so that My Son would shine more clearly through you.
You are not called to impress. You are called to express. My glory is not found in your polish but in your surrender. I have placed Christ in you — the very hope of glory — not as an idea, but as your indwelling life. The same Jesus who walked the earth now walks in you. The same Spirit that raised Him from the dead empowers you to radiate His fragrance.
Do not despise your limitations. I do not. Your frailty is the frame through which others glimpse My power. Your dependence is the platform from which My grace is displayed. Every moment of yielded trust opens space for My Son to be seen in your mortal body. Even in the most cracked places of your humanity, He is pouring forth.
So, walk on in peace. I have not asked you to be more than human. I have made you new, and I have made you Mine. Let the treasure be seen.

Real-Life Analogy
It’s like holding a flickering candle in a paper lantern on a calm night. The lantern is fragile, easily torn or crumpled, but it carries the light with elegance. No one stares at the paper — their eyes are drawn to the glow within. That’s how your life carries Christ. The point isn’t the container. It’s the flame.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, I am grateful that You never asked me to be anything more than a vessel. You knew my frailty, yet You filled me with Your Son. I rest in the certainty that Christ in me is enough. Your power is made perfect in the very places I once wished away. I gladly carry Your treasure in this earthen body, trusting that every crack is a chance for Your glory to shine through. Thank You for making Your life my life.
