David’s honesty helps me breathe again. He admits that his sins felt like floodwaters over his head, and like a weight he could not carry. He also admits that fear and slander pressed in from every side. In that place he did not polish himself. He turned, and said, You are my God. My times are in Your hand.
Bob Hoekstra points us to this simple movement of the heart. Not a technique, but a Person. David confesses the Lord as his God in every season. In failure, he looks up in hope. In sickness, he cries out and then thanks the Lord for lifting his life from the pit. In ordinary days, when he knows he has no goodness apart from God, he trusts again. In joyful seasons, he counts the Lord’s thoughts and wonders. The same confession fits each moment. You are my God.
This is not self punishment. This is grace. The Lord does not turn away. He comes near. He hears. He holds our times with care. Under the new covenant we see even more. In Jesus we belong to the Father, and the Spirit lives in us. Confessing, You are my God, is not a plea to be accepted. It is the voice of a son or daughter who knows where home is.
Thank you, Pastor Bob, for putting a warm hand on our shoulder and pointing us to the Lord’s faithful heart. I want to live today with that same simplicity. When pressures rise, or when joy runs high, I want my first words to match David’s words. You are my God. My times are in Your hand.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I hear you when you call. Hope in Me, for I will answer you. When guilt feels like deep waters and the weight is heavy, come to Me. I forgive all your iniquity through My Son. Cast your burden on Me, for I sustain you. I am near to the brokenhearted, and I save the crushed in spirit.
Say to Me, You are my God. Your times are in My hand. I heal your diseases. I lift your life from the pit. I surround you with steadfast love and mercy. I preserve you as you take refuge in Me. Apart from Me you have no good. Many are My wonderful works toward you, more than can be numbered.
You are united with Christ. You were co crucified with Him, and you live by faith in the Son of God who loves you. You are not under guilt’s rule. Consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God. Present your body to Me. Walk by My Spirit. I pour the love of God into your heart. Abide in My Son, and you will bear fruit that remains.
So when fear stirs or weariness speaks, turn again. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Speak, You are my God. I am with you. I will never forsake you. I keep you today, and I hold your times with care.

Real-Life Analogy
Think about setting down a heavy backpack on a hook by the door. While you carry it, the straps dig in and your shoulders ache. Once you hang it up, your posture changes and your pace lightens. The Holy Spirit helps us do that on the inside. He reminds us to hang the weight on the Lord, and to walk unburdened in His care.
Try this today. When an email or a text lands like a brick, pause at your desk and sit back for a moment. Say, Lord, I trust You to carry this weight, and to work through me with clarity and calm. Then answer with honesty and patience, expecting Jesus to supply what the moment needs.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that You are my God. Thank You that in Jesus I am forgiven, and that my life is held in Your hand. Thank You for hearing me, for drawing near, and for lifting what I cannot carry. I present this day to You with gratitude. Lord, I trust You to guard my steps, steady my words, and express Your love through me in each conversation.
