Walking in the Father’s Life

As a cup fills effortlessly under flowing water, so our lives are filled as we yield to the Father’s life within.

Witness Lee draws our attention to the contrast between two ways of living. The first is the hopeless path of the natural life, which is weak and powerless to meet God’s standards. The second is the way of divine life, which God has given us in His Son. Through union with Jesus, we are no longer left to strive in the weakness of our flesh. Instead, we live by the life of the Spirit within us. This is the very life of the Father, expressed through the Son, now dwelling in us.

Lee reminds us that walking according to the Spirit is not a matter of effort or boast. It is the outflow of the divine life within. As we turn away from trusting our natural life and depend upon God’s indwelling Spirit, His righteousness is expressed through us. What once felt impossible under law becomes spontaneous under grace, for the Father’s life within us always fulfills His own requirements.

The heart of this devotional is an invitation to shift our confidence. When we see the hopelessness of our natural self, we stop expecting it to produce what only God can provide. Instead, we rest in the reality that His life is already ours. The Spirit of His Son indwells us, and by simply walking according to the Spirit, the righteousness of God is displayed in us.

This is not a message of striving harder but of yielding fully. To live by the Father’s life is to stop depending on the old and to embrace the new. It is a call to abide in what is already true, to rest in what is already given, and to rejoice in what is already ours in Christ.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

My beloved child, do not trust in the power of your natural self. Your old life cannot fulfill My righteousness, nor can it produce what pleases Me. That life is hopeless. But I have not left you to yourself. I have given you My own life in My Son, and My Spirit dwells within you.

You no longer walk under the weight of law but in the liberty of My Spirit. When you walk according to the Spirit, the righteous requirement of the law is fulfilled in you. Not because of what you do, but because of who I am in you. I am your life, and as you yield to Me, I express Myself through you.

Turn to My life within you. Stay with My life. Live by My life. In every moment, My Spirit is ready to guide you, empower you, and bear My fruit through you. You are no longer in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed My Spirit dwells in you. And because My Spirit dwells in you, you are Mine.

Rest in this truth: it is no longer you who live, but Christ who lives in you. The life you now live in the flesh, you live by faith in the Son of God who loved you and gave Himself for you.

Real-Life Analogy

Think of an empty cup placed under a running faucet. The cup cannot fill itself. Its only role is to remain under the flow, and as it stays there, water continually fills it. In the same way, your natural life cannot produce righteousness. But when you remain yielded to the Spirit within, His life flows, and you are filled with what you could never produce yourself.

Today, as I step into moments that once tempted me to strive, I can simply rest and say, “Lord, I trust You to live Your life through me right now.” That quiet yielding places me under the flow of His divine life, and His fullness fills my emptiness.

Prayer of Confidence

Lord, I thank You that I no longer live in the hopelessness of my natural life. You have given me Your Spirit, and Your life is now mine. I rejoice that in You, the righteous requirement of the law is already fulfilled. I rest in Your presence and trust You to express Your life through me today.
