The Voice That Knows

Amid the noise of many voices, the voice of the Lord is clear and certain for those who listen.

Ray Stedman reminds us today of the great confusion that often surrounds us. Just as the exiles in Babylon were faced with conflicting voices and rival factions, we too live in a world full of competing claims to truth. Some voices appeal to spirituality without substance, others to secular logic that denies God altogether, and still others claim authority in His name but lack His commission. In such an environment, uncertainty can weigh heavily on our souls.

Stedman draws our attention back to Jeremiah’s declaration: God is the one who knows. He knows not only the visible actions of men, but also the hidden thoughts of the heart. He sees what is concealed and brings it to light. This is a word of comfort to the believer, for while human voices confuse, God’s voice is steady, reliable, and certain. In Him we do not have to guess at truth.

He explains that God reveals His truth in three ways: through history, which records the errors and solutions of generations past; through current events, where the hand of God works in the affairs of men; and through His Word, where the revelation of Jesus Christ provides light for all who listen. When these three converge, we see with clarity that God rules and is not silent.

The heart of Stedman’s encouragement is simple: in a world of noise, we need not be swept along by every claim. We have the privilege of hearing the voice of the One who knows and makes Himself known. Our calling is to listen, trust, and walk in what He reveals, resting in His faithful presence.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

My child, do not be unsettled by the clamor of many voices. I am the One who knows, and I reveal what is true. Do not fear when others twist My name for their own purposes, for nothing escapes My sight. I see what is hidden in the heart and I bring it to light.

I have shown you My ways in the pages of history, where every error of man has been met by My wisdom and grace. I am working even now in the movements of nations, showing that I rule over all. I have given you My Word, and in Jesus you see truth fully revealed. Listen to Him, for He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Do not wander after voices that promise shortcuts or illusions of power. Do not despair when the world mocks what I have spoken. Instead, anchor yourself in Me. I have placed My Spirit within you to remind you of all truth. My sheep hear My voice, and they follow Me. You are not left to confusion, but to clarity, for I am your God and I will lead you into all truth.

Real-Life Analogy

Imagine standing in a busy train station during rush hour. Announcements are coming from every direction, people are shouting to one another, and the noise is overwhelming. But then, in the midst of the chaos, you hear a familiar voice calling your name. Instantly you recognize it and turn toward the one who speaks, confident and at peace because you know who it is.

Life often feels like that station, filled with competing voices and distractions. Yet as I quiet my heart and yield to the indwelling Spirit, I can say, “Lord, I trust You to make Your voice clear in this moment.” His voice rises above the noise, guiding me with certainty.

Prayer of Confidence

Lord, I thank You that in the midst of confusion, I am not left to guesswork. You are the One who knows, and You faithfully make Your will known. I rejoice that You reveal Yourself in history, in present events, and in the living Word of Jesus. I rest in the truth that I hear Your voice, and I walk in the clarity You provide. I trust today that no false voice will shake me, for You are my guide and my certainty.
