The Word’s Word

The Word is the window, Christ is the view beyond.

Today’s reflection from Miles Stanford draws us back to the true purpose of Scripture—not as a book to be mastered intellectually, but as a portal into the heart of Christ Himself. The Word was never meant to be an academic subject or a religious obligation. It was given so we might know the One who is the Word—our High Priest, our Life, our All.

As T. Austin-Sparks reminds us, every aspect of the Christian life is built upon the knowledge of Christ: our relationship with God, our growth in grace, and our service to others all flow from this living connection. To simply know biblical facts without intimate acquaintance with the Living Word is to miss the point entirely.

The devotional presses us to look beyond external knowledge into the kind of knowing that transforms. We cannot return to the world when our hearts are captivated by Christ. He is not only the One who gives life but is the very Life within us. He is not merely our goal; He is our Way and our Source along the way. When we open the Bible, we are not merely reading—we are drawing near to the Person of Christ, in full assurance of faith.

✍🏼 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

I gave you My Word so you would see Me. Every passage, every promise, every prophecy—these are the contours of My face drawn in grace. The written Word points to the Living Word, and the Living Word dwells in you.

Come to Me with confidence. The veil was torn so you could approach—not cautiously, but boldly. I am your High Priest, seated at the right hand of Majesty, yet fully present within your heart. You do not study truth to perform better. You abide in truth to know Me deeper.

When your heart runs after Me, you are running in step with why I laid hold of you. Let no task distract you from the singular joy of knowing Me. Though you may have many things to do today, you need only One as your aim. I am your all. I am in all. I am the power behind every step and the object before every glance.

To grow is not to climb higher—it is to rest deeper in Me. Every moment you turn to the Scriptures with a heart to behold Me, I draw you nearer. Let the pages breathe with My presence. Let the verses pull you close. You are no longer on the outside looking in—you are in the Holiest, because you are in Me.

🪟 Real-Life Analogy

It’s like looking through a window to see the sky. The glass isn’t the point—it’s what lies beyond. You don’t stare at the windowpane to admire its texture. You look through it to behold the vastness of heaven. In the same way, Scripture is the window; Jesus is the view. Don’t stop at the words—let them lead you into Him.

🙏🏼 Prayer of Confidence

Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word that brings me face to face with Jesus. I rest in the truth that I don’t need to strive to understand You—I already know You because Christ lives in me. Your Spirit teaches me to see Christ on every page and in every breath. I rejoice that I can come boldly—not as a student earning knowledge, but as a child drawing near in love. Christ is my Life, and I lack nothing in Him.
