The choices we make each day are not trivial—they reveal the deep currents of our hearts. Today’s devotional from A.B. Simpson reminds us that every decision steers us either toward the things of the Spirit or toward the gravitational pull of the world. It’s not merely about what we say aloud, or how spiritual our words sound, but about what we prefer. What we truly want is laid bare before the Lord.
Solomon’s request for wisdom wasn’t just a smart answer; it reflected what his heart truly desired. And God, seeing that desire, gave him not only wisdom but abundance beyond what he asked. The message is clear: our decisions—especially the ones born of unseen longings—carry eternal weight. We might fool others with outward behavior, but God sees what we truly value.
That’s why this day—and every day—is a gift of grace and an invitation. The Lord lays before us two paths: life or death, blessing or cursing. And with that offer comes a gentle urging: Choose life. Choose Him. Choose the favor and fellowship of the One who gave all to make that fellowship possible.
The moment we start thinking, “Let me first get what I want, then I’ll consider spiritual matters,” we’ve already made a decision—one that may distance us from the deeper life we were meant for. The lesson isn’t that we must strive or prove our devotion through effort, but that our yielded hearts, abiding in Christ, naturally choose the better portion.
📓 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit:
My child, I have set before you not a maze, but a choice—a path where life flows freely from abiding in Me. Each moment brings a crossroads, though it may seem ordinary. And I am not asking you to manufacture the right choice; I am inviting you to lean into Me, to let Me choose through you.
You are not left to navigate this life on your own. I am your wisdom. I am the light that shines on the path of life. When your heart is yielded, your steps will align with My will—not because you are disciplined, but because you are resting in Me. Solomon’s request was not performance—it was desire. He wanted My heart more than earthly gain, and I delighted to give him both.
You too have that Spirit within you. I see what your heart treasures even when your lips are silent. So don’t focus on fixing your desires—just abide. Let Me purify the longings that tug within you. Let Me be your portion.
Say yes to Me in the small places. Choose the thought that honors Me. Choose the conversation that reflects My kindness. Choose to release that envy, that fear, that entitlement. As you yield, I live. As you trust, I guide. And in those simple moments, you are choosing life—real life, full of joy and peace.
Let your soul say today, “Whatever else comes, let me have Christ. Let me walk in fellowship. Let me know the pleasure of My Father’s smile.” And I will respond with abundance far beyond your asking.

🪞Real-Life Analogy:
Imagine opening your kitchen cabinet in the morning to decide between two mugs. One is chipped and cloudy; the other is clean, warm from the dishwasher, ready to fill. You reach instinctively for the clean one. You didn’t overthink it—you simply picked what you knew would serve you well.
Each moment is like that choice. Our hearts reach for what we’ve made familiar. When we live yielded to the Spirit, the better portion becomes our default. Instead of forcing ourselves to make godly choices, we find ourselves naturally responding in peace, kindness, and trust—not because we tried harder, but because we’ve learned to abide.
So today, when a conversation turns tense or your plans start to unravel, let your heart say, Lord, I trust You to respond in and through me right now. I don’t need to reach for the old cup. I receive You as my portion in this moment.
🙏 Prayer of Confidence:
Father, thank You for placing before me the path of life—not one I must create, but one I walk as I yield to Your indwelling Spirit. I rejoice that I am not left to weigh every decision alone. Christ in me is wisdom, peace, joy, and life. Today, I rest in Your heart and trust You to choose in and through me. Whatever else comes, let me be found walking in fellowship with You, content in Your smile.
