The Quiet Grace That Carries
Just as prized mug is carried with care, so the Holy Spirit carries and shapes us with gentleness.

Today’s devotional from A.B. Simpson centers on Psalm 18:35 and highlights a truth often overlooked: that God’s gentleness, not just His strength, lifts us up. While many of us may be drawn to the power of God to deliver or protect, this passage reminds us that His quiet, patient love is what makes us truly great. We are not transformed by harshness, fear, or force, but by the gentle, personal touch of His Spirit.
The Holy Spirit, who dwells in us, carries the very nature of this gentleness. When He fills a person, that heart begins to reflect the patience and peace of Jesus. Sarcasm, anger, and a cutting tongue may come naturally to the flesh, but they do not belong to the Spirit’s work. Instead, the Spirit leads with quietness, speaks with kindness, and responds with longsuffering grace.
When we yield to the Spirit, we begin to experience that same stillness. God does not rush us. He does not shout over our confusion. He comes with tender correction and waits with loving patience. He does not give up on us. Rather, He shapes us with care until His gentleness becomes our way of relating to others.
The devotional draws us back to a simple truth: gentleness is not weakness. It is power under control, expressed in love. God’s gentleness is not an accessory to His strength. It is one of the purest evidences of His strength working within us.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I have drawn you with cords of kindness. I have lifted you with My gentleness. My Spirit is not loud or harsh. I do not drive you. I lead you beside still waters and restore your soul. In quietness and confidence, I shape you.
Let your heart be tender. Let your words be seasoned with grace. When you walk by the Spirit, gentleness will mark your path. It is My fruit, not your striving, that will bring peace to your tone and kindness to your responses. I do not ask you to manufacture it. I invite you to yield to it.
I did not crush you when you wandered. I waited. I called. I pursued. My discipline does not bruise. It refines. You are growing in My image, and My gentleness will be seen in your posture, your pauses, and your patience. I make you great, not by acclaim, but by quiet grace. Remain in Me, and My nature will express itself through you.

Real-Life Analogy
Picture someone holding a valued mug, not with fear, but with care. They carry it from one room to another, adjusting their grip and steps so it doesn't rattle or slip. It’s not about weakness. It’s about honoring what is precious.
That’s how the Holy Spirit carries you. He is not careless with your story. He moves within you with intention and grace. Even in discipline, He does not crush. He restores.
So today, when someone interrupts your plans or tests your patience, pause. You can say, “Lord, I trust You to express Your gentleness through me in this moment.” You are not left to manage the response on your own. You are carried by the One who is gentle and lowly in heart.
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, thank You for Your gentleness that makes me great. You could have overwhelmed me with force, but instead You drew me with love. I am who I am today because You were patient when I was restless, kind when I was sharp, and faithful when I wavered.
I trust You to live this same gentleness through me. I don’t have to force it. I simply yield. Thank You that Your Spirit is not only in me but flowing through me, forming in me a quiet confidence and a gracious way of being. You are gentle, and I am learning to walk gently too.
