There are seasons when life rubs a little rough. Duties press in. Circumstances stack up. We wonder if a life of steady fellowship with Jesus is even possible in the middle of so much noise. Today’s reading from Abide Above reminds us that our Father is not far off in these moments. He is personally near. He trains His children in love, and His aim is not to break us, but to form Christ in us for our good and for His glory.
Miles Stanford points us to the heart behind the pressures we face. Trials are not proof of God’s absence. They are invitations into His presence. The Father’s loving discipline is not punishment for sins that Jesus already carried to the cross. It is family training for sons and daughters who already belong. He wants us to come away from the world to Himself, to trust Him, and to discover that every difficulty can become a meeting place with the Lord.
This changes the way we read our days. Instead of seeing only obstacles, we can recognize a Father’s hand that is wise and gentle. He knows our frame. He knows our calling. He takes more time with those He is preparing for deep and lasting usefulness. That may mean longer seasons in the workshop, yet the intention is always love, always formation, always fruit that lasts.
So we can breathe easy and walk forward with confidence. The shaping is not forever, and it is never random. Afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness. Thank you, Miles Stanford, for this needed reminder that our Father’s training is a present gift, and that in Jesus we are already secure while He patiently forms us.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I am with you in every pressure, and I do not forsake you. I discipline you as beloved children so that you share in My holiness. My purpose in your trials is not to condemn, but to conform you to the image of My Son. I work in you to will and to do what pleases Me. What seems heavy now produces a weight of glory that far outweighs the momentary affliction.
I began a good work in you, and I will carry it on to completion. When you meet tests of many kinds, count it as joy, for steadfastness grows there. I refine your faith, more precious than gold, so that the result is praise and honor at the revealing of Jesus. I am your comfort in all affliction, and I make you a comfort to others with the comfort you receive from Me.
You died with Jesus and you live to God in Him. Present yourself to Me as one alive from the dead, and present your members as instruments of righteousness. Set your mind on things above, for your life is hidden with the Anointed One in Me. As you behold My glory in the face of Jesus, I transform you from one degree of glory to another. I renew your mind so that you discern My good and acceptable and perfect will.
When you feel weak, remember that My grace is sufficient. Power finds its home in weakness. Do not despise My training. I reprove those whom I love. As a father has compassion on his children, so I have compassion on you. When you walk through deep waters, I am with you. When the fire burns, you are not consumed. I sanctify you completely, and I am faithful. I will surely do it.
Real-Life Analogy
Think of a washing machine on the gentle cycle. There is water, movement, and time. The process is not violent, but it is purposeful. The fabric comes out cleaner, softer, and ready to be worn. Our Father’s training often feels like that gentle cycle. The Spirit of Jesus surrounds us, moves us, and works through time. He is not trying to tear the fabric. He is cleansing and preparing us for use.
If you face a tense conversation at work today, pause before you respond. Whisper, Lord, I trust You to express Your life through me as I speak. I yield my tone, my words, and my timing to You. Then answer with calm honesty, confident that Jesus within you is more than able to love through you.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You for receiving me as Your child in Jesus. Thank You that Your training is anchored in love, not in wrath. Thank You that every pressure can become a place of communion with You. I affirm that Your grace is sufficient, Your wisdom is kind, and Your purpose is good. I rest in the finished work of Jesus and welcome Your shaping today, confident that You will bring forth the peaceful fruit You intend.
