Ready for Holy Detours
A quiet desert road at first light, a simple picture of saying yes when the Spirit redirects the day.

Acts 8 tells the story of Philip. An angel sends him onto a desert road, and the Spirit says, go near that chariot. Philip steps toward an unexpected assignment, and a man goes home rejoicing. Today’s reading in His Victorious Indwelling reminds me that the Spirit plans and appoints our days. Nick Harrison’s curation nudges us to stay open to changes of program, not tying the Spirit to our comfort zones.
I needed that. It is easy to let convenience draw small circles around obedience. We settle near what we own, what we know, or what we planned at breakfast. The devotional warns against quietly putting the Spirit on a leash with our preferences. Yesterday’s instructions helped yesterday. Today belongs to the living Lord.
There is another kindness in the reading. If we knew the Father’s heart, we would not push His hand away while He teaches us. He is not careless with detours. He is wise and gentle. He moves us for someone else’s good, and He grows us as we go.
So the invitation is simple. Keep travel clothes on the heart. Hold plans lightly. Listen for the Spirit’s nudge in ordinary places, and be willing to cross the room, the street, or the phone line. Jesus is still writing stories on desert roads.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I lead you. You are a child of God, and those who are led by the Spirit of God are My sons and daughters. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and I will make straight your paths. I guide you with My eye upon you. You will hear a word behind you saying, this is the way, walk in it.
I open and close doors. I forbade Paul from one region and called him to another, and I sent Philip to a single traveler on a desert road. I order your steps. I prepared good works beforehand that you should walk in them. My peace rules in your heart. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
I am your Helper. I bring to remembrance all that Jesus has said, and I guide you into all the truth. I work in you to will and to act for the Father’s good pleasure. Do not worry about tomorrow. Seek first the kingdom. Walk by faith, not by sight. Abide in My Son, and you will bear much fruit that remains.
When plans shift, do not be afraid. I am with you wherever you go. Be strong and very courageous in the Lord. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. Commit your way to the Lord. Trust in Him, and He will act.

Real-Life Analogy
Think of a phone’s navigation app. You set a route, then traffic backs up. The app offers a reroute that saves time. When you accept, the blue line shifts, and you reach the goal by a different road. The indwelling Spirit of Jesus works like that. As you yield, He quietly reroutes around delays you cannot see and toward people you might otherwise miss. The destination remains, the path changes, and peace replaces frustration.
Try this today. When your schedule gets interrupted, pause instead of resisting. Pray, Lord, I trust You to reroute me and to love through me right here. Then act on the small nudge in front of you, a text of encouragement, an unplanned stop, a patient answer.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that my days are Spirit planned and Spirit appointed. Thank You that in Jesus I am already led, already supplied, and already sent into good works You prepared. I receive Your wise reroutes as kindness. I hold my plans with open hands. Lord, I trust You to direct my steps and to express Your life through me in each interruption and each assignment.
