Christ, the Fulfillment of the Law in Us

The light of Jesus within us fulfills what the law could never achieve

The devotional today reminds us that Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Witness Lee points out that Jesus kept the law perfectly when no one else could. His complete obedience made Him the spotless One, qualified to die in our place. On the cross He satisfied the law’s penalty for our transgressions, standing as our substitute.

But the work did not stop there. Through His resurrection, Jesus imparted to us His own divine life, a life far above our natural efforts. This life within us now enables us to live in harmony with the highest law, not merely avoiding outward sins but being transformed in heart and desire. Where human effort fails, the indwelling life of Jesus succeeds.

As I take this in, I see how deeply the gospel frees us from both guilt and striving. I no longer live trying to reach up to God by my own attempts at law-keeping. Instead, I rest in the One who both satisfied the law’s judgment and now lives His life through me. My daily walk is no longer a matter of “trying to be better” but of yielding to the risen Jesus who fulfills in me what I could never achieve.

Witness Lee rightly shows that the perfection of Christ is not only something done for me, but something working in me. The highest life, eternal and divine, is active within, changing how I respond to God and to others. This is the life of abiding in Christ, resting in Him as He carries out what pleases the Father.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

I kept the law in every way when I walked the earth, and I bore the penalty of your failure on the cross. My perfection became your substitute, and My death removed the condemnation of the law. Yet I did more than remove guilt. I rose to place My life within you, a life that fulfills the deepest intent of the law.

You are no longer bound by rules that condemn you, for you are joined to Me who is the end of the law for righteousness. My Spirit in you teaches you to love from the heart. I do not simply restrain you from murder, I remove the anger that would have grown into it. I do not merely keep you from hatred, I birth in you My love.

Rest in Me, for I live in you. Trust that what you could never do, I now accomplish through you. When the law speaks of its holy standard, hear My voice saying, “It is fulfilled in Me.”

Real-Life Analogy

Imagine a car set to drive up a steep hill. No matter how hard the driver presses the pedal, the old engine sputters and stalls. But once a new engine is placed inside, the car surges up the hill with ease, accomplishing what was impossible before. In the same way, our natural life cannot climb the heights of God’s standard. Yet when Jesus placed His life in us, His power carried us upward with freedom and joy.

Today, when I encounter someone who frustrates me, my natural response may be irritation. But instead of trying to suppress it, I can quietly yield and say, “Lord, I trust You to love through me in this moment.” It is His life, not mine, that fulfills the law of love.

Prayer of Confidence

Lord, I thank You that You perfectly fulfilled the law in every way. You bore its penalty for me, and now You live in me as the One who completes its righteous requirement. I rejoice that I no longer live under the weight of trying to measure up, but under the grace of Your indwelling life. Today I rest in You, confident that Your life in me is enough.
