Nothing Between Us

Letting go of lesser things to walk in the freedom of God’s best.

Today’s devotional from A.B. Simpson draws us to the gentle but unwavering call of Psalm 45:10—Listen… forget your people and your father’s house. This isn’t about disowning loved ones; it’s a deeper invitation to undivided loyalty to the Lord. When we hear His voice calling us to Himself, our response sometimes requires a reordering of affections and priorities. What once seemed essential may now be surrendered—not out of legalistic denial, but because something far more beautiful and eternal has captivated our hearts.

A.B. Simpson reminds us that like the Levites, our lives are now set apart for Him. We are not defined by our comforts, reputations, or indulgences, but by our relationship with Christ and our willingness to follow Him wherever He leads. There may be sacrifices—ease, affirmation, even our ideas of success—but none of these compare to the joy of belonging wholly to Him.

Jesus lived free from material attachments. He lacked earthly possessions, but He lacked nothing. We are invited into that same divine simplicity—not a vow of poverty, but a heart disentangled from anything that competes with Him. In Him, we find wealth beyond gold: contentment, peace, purpose, and love that never fades.

This call may feel radical, but it is not a call to hardship for hardship’s sake. It’s a call to intimacy. We’re not giving up life—we’re giving up lesser things for real life. And when we yield, we find that what once felt like loss is actually freedom. With Jesus, it’s never deprivation—it’s divine exchange.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

You are Mine, beloved, and I have set you apart for Myself. I have not called you to blend in with the noise of this world, but to walk in step with Me in the quiet of My will. Let go of what you think you must keep. The familiar, the comfortable, the praised—none of it compares to what I offer when you yield everything into My hands.

Do not fear what you release. When you surrender your grasp, you will find My presence filling the space once held by those things. I am not asking you to abandon people in cruelty, but to love Me more. When I take first place, all other loves are ordered rightly and filled with My grace.

Look at My Son. He had no place to lay His head, yet His soul overflowed with My pleasure. He bore reproach, but never lacked joy. He was misunderstood, yet never alone. He yielded everything, and I exalted Him. Now, as you abide in Him, that same life courses through you—not a life of accumulation, but a life of union.

The things you once thought essential—success, applause, ease—are passing shadows. But I am eternal. And I have given Myself fully to you. Walk in this truth. You are not missing out; you are stepping in. Every step of surrender makes more room for Me to be seen through you. And in that place, child, you are truly rich.

Real-Life Analogy

Letting go of what entangles us can feel like stepping away from a warm blanket into the crisp morning air—it’s uncomfortable at first, but you begin to breathe more freely. The blanket that once comforted now restricts your movement. You weren't meant to live wrapped in the temporary; you were meant to move with purpose, unburdened.

Today, if something is keeping you from walking in the fullness of Christ—whether it’s the need to be understood, the pursuit of comfort, or the fear of disappointing others—pause. And say to the Lord, “I trust You to live Your life through me in this moment. You are enough for me.” Then watch how He gently unwraps what you thought you needed, and clothes you instead with peace, purpose, and joy that only He can give.

Prayer of Confidence

Father,
Thank You that in Christ, I already have all that I need. You have not asked me to earn my way or prove my worth. You simply call me to abide, to trust, and to yield. I rejoice that nothing I release compares to the treasure I’ve gained in You. You are my portion, my path, and my prize. I am rich in You, and I want nothing that dims the light of Your presence in me. So today, I walk forward, lightened, not burdened—content to be Yours and Yours alone.
Amen.
