The promises of God are described as “exceedingly great and precious” because they are far beyond human imagining and worth more than any earthly treasure. These are not ordinary assurances. The Greek root behind “exceedingly great” gives us our English prefix “mega,” underscoring their unmatched scale. And they are “precious” because they are priceless, beyond anything this world can secure.
One such promise appears in Jesus’ simple call to discipleship: “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” This is not merely an invitation to a task but a summons into relationship. Jesus does not command us to reshape ourselves into something useful for His kingdom. Instead, He promises to be the One who reshapes us. For those first disciples, He took their everyday skill of catching fish and transformed it into the eternal work of reaching people for God’s kingdom.
This is God’s way of changing lives: “I will make you.” Transformation does not come from human striving, from self-improvement programs, or from doubling down on personal effort. It is not born from promises to God about what we will do for Him, but from trusting His promise about what He will do in us. He has already declared that we are His workmanship, created in Jesus Christ for good works. Our part is to follow Him in humble dependence, and His part is to do the remaking.
By grace, this means that anyone willing to pursue a deepening relationship with the Lord can experience His transforming work. He does not remodel us from the outside in; He renews us from the inside out. As we walk with Him, He shapes our desires, our thinking, our character, and our actions into the likeness of His own life. And because the promise is His, we can rest in the certainty that He will accomplish it.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
You are Mine, and I am making you into what I have purposed. I have called you to follow Me, not to perfect yourself. I am the One who began this good work in you, and I will carry it on to completion. You are My workmanship, created in Me for good works that I prepared beforehand for you to walk in.
When I call you to follow, it is not only to walk where I walk, but to know My heart and share My life. I will equip you for what I call you to do. I am shaping you into one who bears fruit that remains. I am conforming you to My image, not through your determination, but through My life within you.
Let your focus be on Me, not on the process of your change. I will make you what I desire you to be. Trust My promise. Follow Me in faith, and you will see My work accomplished in ways your own striving never could.

Real-Life Analogy
Imagine a skilled potter at a wheel shaping a lump of clay into a vessel of beauty and purpose. The clay is not straining to become the vessel; it simply yields to the potter’s hands. The transformation comes from the potter’s vision, skill, and touch.
In your own walk today, think of moments where you are tempted to “make yourself” into what you think God wants. Instead, let His hands guide the shaping. Perhaps in a conversation where you want to control the outcome, you can pause inwardly and say, “Lord, I trust You to form in me the words, the patience, and the love for this moment.” The shaping is His, and the results are His.
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, thank You for Your promise to make me into what You desire. I rest in knowing that You are both the Author and the Finisher of my faith. You are the One who began this work in me, and You will bring it to completion. I rejoice that my transformation is Your doing, not my achievement. Today I walk in trust, confident that You are shaping my life from the inside out according to Your perfect design.
