Immeasurably More

Even when surrounded by shadow, we stand in the light of the Name above all names.

The early disciples were not disheartened by suffering. Instead, they rejoiced — not because the pain was pleasant, but because they were counted worthy to bear dishonor for the Name of Jesus. They didn’t retreat, didn’t stay quiet, and didn’t second-guess their calling. Day after day, from public places to private homes, they continued boldly proclaiming Christ.

Ray Stedman reminds us that suffering is not an interruption to the Christian life — it’s a thread woven into the very calling of following Jesus. As Paul wrote, it has been granted to us not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for Him. Suffering isn’t reserved for a select few; it is common to all who live in step with truth in a world governed by deception. Peter, too, urged believers not to be surprised when trials come, as if something abnormal were happening. This is the norm in a world that sees light as strange and darkness as familiar.

To suffer for Jesus is not shameful — it’s sacred. We are to see it as the early church did: as an honor. Their reaction wasn’t withdrawal but rejoicing. Not despair, but worship. The Church was never meant to hide from confrontation. It was meant to shine through it.

Personalized Journal Entry — Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

I have appointed you not only to believe in Me but also to share in My sufferings — not because I want you harmed, but because I am revealing through you a life the world cannot explain. Every trial you endure for My sake is not a loss, but a banner of honor. Just as the apostles rejoiced after being flogged, you too are invited into joy that defies circumstances. I count you worthy.

You are not strange when you refuse the world’s illusions; it is the world that is upside down. When they mock you for the truth, know that they mocked Me first. When you feel the chill of rejection, I surround you with warmth. When you are misunderstood, I am your understanding. You bear My Name — and in that Name, you are blessed beyond measure.

This is not a season to shrink back but to rejoice with exceeding gladness. I am forming in you the boldness of the early church — not through your effort, but through your union with Me. Stand, speak, love, endure. The world may not applaud, but I delight in you. You are mine, and through you, I am seen.

Real-Life Analogy

It’s like being the only one in a theater who realizes the film is just an illusion on a screen. While everyone else gasps or laughs at shadows, you’ve seen behind the curtain. You know the story’s true ending, and that the light outside is brighter than anything projected inside. You might be called odd — even unwelcome — for standing up and walking out, but you know you’ve seen something real. That’s what it means to stand for truth in a world that’s bought into fiction.

Prayer of Confidence

Father, thank You that I’ve been counted worthy to bear the Name of Jesus. I do not shrink from the tension that comes with standing in truth. I rejoice that I’m united with Christ not only in His resurrection but in His sufferings. I trust You to live Your life through me today, expressing courage, love, and joy that doesn’t make sense to this world — but perfectly reflects Yours. I rest in Your pleasure and press on in Your victory.
