Hearts Filled to the Brim
God fills every surrendered vessel to the brim.

Today’s devotiona from A.B. Simpsonl reflects on the spiritual paradox of emptiness and fullness—how God meets surrendered lack with divine sufficiency. Using the Exodus promise that the Israelites would not leave Egypt empty-handed, it draws a spiritual parallel: when we are emptied of self, God fills us with Himself.
Many believers are quick to acknowledge our insufficiency—we know we have nothing of eternal value in ourselves. But far fewer live confidently in the truth that our sufficiency is from God (2 Corinthians 3:5). The devotional calls us to trust not only that we are poor in ourselves, but that we are rich in Him.
It likens this to Elisha’s miracle: the vessels had to be empty before they were filled with oil, and likewise at Cana, Jesus had the jars filled to the brim before He turned the water into wine. God doesn’t leave surrendered vessels empty—He fills them to overflowing with Himself. The real question is not whether we’re empty—but whether we are available, confident, and open to His filling.
✍🏼 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I do not leave My people empty-handed. I brought My children out of Egypt not in lack but in abundance, not in defeat but in triumph. So it is with you. When I call you to be emptied, I am not withholding—I am preparing you for fullness. The emptying of your self-reliance is the invitation for My Spirit to overflow.
I have never asked you to draw from yourself. I have asked you to abide in Me. Your sufficiency is not of you, but of Me. I am the Source of the oil that fills, the wine that gladdens, the water that gives life. You were never meant to supply your own joy, your own peace, your own power for service. I AM all these for you.
Just as Elisha poured into vessels that were made ready, I pour into hearts that rest in Me. I turn the ordinary into the miraculous when you yield. Do not dwell in fear of emptiness—celebrate the space made for My presence. When your vessel is open, I fill it. When your heart is quiet, I speak. When your hands are free, I work through them.
You are not empty. You are Mine. And because you are Mine, you are full.

🫙 Real-Life Analogy
It’s like opening a tightly sealed jar that’s been sitting on a shelf—until you loosen the lid and create space, nothing can be poured in. But once it’s open and empty, it’s ready to be filled with something fresh and good. The jar’s value isn’t in its tightness—it’s in its openness.
🙏🏼 Prayer of Confidence
Father, I thank You that You do not leave me empty. You have already filled me with the life of Your Son and the indwelling of Your Spirit. I rejoice that my sufficiency is not something I have to create—it’s something I get to receive, moment by moment, from You. I trust that every gap in my heart is already met in Christ, and every calling is already empowered by Your life in me. Today, I walk with confidence, knowing I am full because I am Yours.
