Grace On The Grass At Suppertime

haring what Jesus supplies, enough for everyone, even at day’s end.

Evening settled over a hungry crowd. The disciples did the math, then offered a practical solution. Send the people away so they can buy food. Jesus answered with a different economy. They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat. His reply moves us from law to grace, from demand to gift, from self-sourcing to God supplying.

Today’s reading from Witness Lee reminds me that Jesus does not posture like Moses. He does not say, do this so you may get that. Jesus arrives with grace, then shares Himself. He gives, then keeps giving. He brings a banquet into a barren place. He invites us to participate, not by tightening our jaw and grinding out effort, but by receiving from Him and handing it on.

I have known the instinct to send needs away. Try the village. Try a podcast. Try a plan. But Jesus stands beside us, eyes on the crowd, and says, give them something to eat. He is not pushing us back into our own resources. He is drawing us into His life. His compassion supplies what His command requires.

So we gather our small basket. Five loaves. Two fish. We place it in His hands. He blesses, breaks, and shares, and our empty hands somehow keep finding more to pass along. The law measures. Grace multiplies. The result is simple. People eat. People rest. People taste Jesus.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

I am with you in the field and at the table. I do not send the hungry away. I work in you to will and to do for My good pleasure, so My call to give is joined to My supply within you. The law came through Moses, but grace and truth came in Jesus. You are in Him, and He lives in you. I make you a steward of grace, not a foreman of rules.

Look again at your small portion. You call it not enough. I call it seed in My hands. I am able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things, you abound in every good work. Your adequacy is not from yourself. Your life is hidden with Jesus in God. Christ in you is the hope of glory, and I draw from that fullness as you abide.

Do not retreat when needs gather like evening shadows. Bring them to Me. Offer what you have, then pass along what I provide. I prepared good works for you, and I prepared you for them. When you give, give as one who serves by the strength I supply. When you speak, speak as one who shares the oracles I set on your tongue. Not by works of righteousness that you do, but by My mercy, I renew and pour out.

I am present in the ordinary. I bless what is simple. I multiply what is surrendered. So rest your weight on Me. Receive, then release. Stay near Jesus. Keep your hands open. There will be enough for those in front of you, and there will be enough for you.

Real-Life Analogy

Think of a large pot of soup on the stove as guests arrive. Your ladle is small, and the bowls keep coming, but you are not anxious. You are connected to the simmering source. Each time you dip, there is more. You do not lecture the guests about finding their own meal. You serve, and the pot keeps giving.

Today, let the Holy Spirit be that quiet, steady supply. When a coworker drops a heavy story in your lap, or a family member texts in distress, pause inside and turn toward the Lord who indwells you. Say, Lord, I entrust myself to You, express Your kindness and wisdom through me for this person right now. Then offer a call, a listening ear, or a simple meal, not as a task list to check, but as Jesus sharing His life through you.

Prayer of Confidence

Lord, thank You that in Jesus I have fullness for every empty place I encounter. Thank You that Your grace abounds so my small basket is enough in Your hands. Thank You that my adequacy comes from You and that You prepared works for me, then You live in me to walk them out. I receive Your compassion, Your patience, and Your quiet courage. I rest in Your presence, confident that there will be enough for the people in front of me and enough for me.
