God formed us for Himself. In Jesus, He restores what sin tried to derail, which is that we would live in His joy and display His light in the world. Oswald Chambers points us to this big-hearted purpose. We are not defined by private projects or narrow loyalties. We are drawn into God’s great love for people and invited to live from the life of Jesus within us.
Chambers presses on a tender point. When we wake up to our calling, our smaller agendas begin to give way to the Lord’s larger heart. That can be uncomfortable. Yet it is not harshness from God. It is grace at work, replacing weighty self-direction with the ease of abiding. The Lord is not asking us to muscle our way into goodness. He is inviting us to trust the indwelling Spirit to express the goodness of Jesus through us.
He also writes that Jesus makes strong demands. Through the lens of the life of abiding in Christ, we hear those demands as promises backed by His presence. What He calls for, He supplies. He places His own life in us, so that what He commands, He performs in those who rest in Him. This is not forced conformity. This is union. We live as members of His people, the body that shares His mission as a light to the nations.
So we keep our souls open to God’s purpose, not by white-knuckling devotion, but by yielding and relying on Jesus within. In that place, we discover a steady joy. We were made for Him, and in Him we are already made fit for His presence and His service. Thank you, Oswald, for pointing our eyes back to the Lord’s wide-hearted purpose.
Journal Entry, Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I formed you for Myself. In My Son you are called, set apart to carry My light. I opened your eyes to see My purpose, and I placed you in My people. I made you new in Jesus. I poured My love into your heart. I live in you, and I do not leave you to walk alone.
I work in you to will and to do what pleases Me. I have prepared good works for you to walk in. I ask you to abide in My Son, for apart from Him you can do nothing. In Him you are My workmanship. In Him you shine as a light in the world. The life you now live in your body you live by the faithfulness of My Son, who loved you and gave Himself for you.
I free you from narrow allegiances and small stories. I set your heart on My kingdom. I conform you to the image of My Son. I call you a royal priesthood so that you may declare My excellencies. I shine the light of the knowledge of My glory in your heart. I have made you a light for those around you, that My salvation may reach farther than your eyes can see.
Remain in Me. When I speak, I also supply. My commands are life to you, and My grace empowers what I ask. Walk with Me. I am in you, and I am with you.
Real-Life Analogy
Think of a motion sensor light in a dark hallway. The bulb does not strain to glow. It is connected, it is ready, and when movement is present the light simply turns on. Our life in Jesus is like that. We stay connected, available, and responsive. His presence in us meets the moment, and light appears.
A simple practice for today. When a tense email lands in your inbox, pause before you answer. Breathe slowly, then say, Lord, I rely on You to express Your life through me in this reply, steady my words with Your gentleness and truth. Then write from that quiet place of trust. The point is not perfect phrasing. The point is staying available so the Holy Spirit can shine through you.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that in Jesus I am already made fit for Your presence. Thank You for placing Your Spirit within me and for setting me in Your purpose to be a light. I rest in the grace that supplies what You ask. I yield my plans to the life of Your Son in me. I trust You as Lord to work in my words, my decisions, and my steps today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
