Fit Instruments in His Hands
A garden hose has no water of its own, but once connected, it becomes a channel of life. So too we are instruments for God’s Spirit flowing through us.

A. B. Simpson points us to the story of Gideon’s three hundred, where the Lord Himself turned confusion into victory. The battle was won not by numbers or strength, but by God’s power working through surrendered vessels. Simpson reminds us that our careless words, rash actions, or confessions of fear can dull the edge of what God desires to do through us. The Holy Spirit works in weak vessels, but He does not leave them weak. He equips and shapes them into instruments through which His life and power may flow.
Simpson paints the picture of an electrical current. A rope, no matter how thick, cannot conduct electricity. A simple wire, though small, is fit for the task because it allows the current to flow freely. In the same way, God’s desire is not that we remain unusable, but that we become fit channels of His life. His work in us produces wills that yield, hearts that trust, lips that obey, and lives that are consistent with His Spirit.
This reminder shifts the way we think about our role in service. It is not our size, talent, or human capability that makes us useful. It is our willingness to yield to God and allow His power to flow through us. The Holy Spirit transforms what is weak and insufficient into something that becomes a living conductor of God’s life.
When we live in union with Jesus, even our smallest offering becomes significant. He does not expect us to remain stuck in folly or bound in weakness. He intends for His wisdom, grace, and Spirit to make us fit instruments for His use. This is not striving, but abiding—trusting Him to live through us and express His life in ways that far exceed our own ability.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
My child, I have chosen you not because of your strength, but because of My love. I delight in working through those who trust Me rather than themselves. I have placed My Spirit within you so that you might be a vessel fit for My use. You are not left to remain weak, for I have given you My wisdom and grace.
Yield your will to Mine, and you will discover the power of My life flowing through you. Trust Me in your daily steps, and I will show you that what is impossible in your strength is possible in My hands. I desire your lips to speak words of life, your heart to rest in faith, and your life to reflect the consistency of My Spirit.
Do not despise your smallness. As a wire carries the current, so you carry the life of My Son. The question is not your adequacy, but your availability. As you abide in Jesus, you will bear much fruit, for apart from Him you can do nothing. But in Him, I have already made you complete, equipped for every good work.

Real-Life Analogy
Think of a garden hose lying coiled on the ground. On its own, it is dry and lifeless. But once connected to the spigot and opened to the flow, water rushes through it to bring refreshment wherever it is directed. The hose is not the source, but it becomes the instrument of delivery. In the same way, our lives are not the source of power, but when yielded to God, His Spirit flows through us to accomplish what He desires.
Today, when faced with a task that seems too large or too small, I can simply rest and say, “Lord, I trust You to flow through me in this very moment.” That posture of trust makes me a fit vessel, not because of my capability, but because of His sufficiency.
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, I thank You that You have chosen me to be a vessel for Your life. I rejoice that You do not leave me in weakness, but You fill me with wisdom and grace so that I may be a fit instrument for Your purposes. I rest in the truth that Your Spirit flows through me, accomplishing what I never could in my own power. I yield myself with confidence, knowing that in Jesus, I am complete and equipped for every good work.
