Eyes Fixed on Christ
Just as eyelashes shield the eyes, the inward gaze upon Christ guards the soul.

Today’s reflection from A.B. Simpson urges us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus—not merely glancing at Him now and then, but practicing a continual “off-looking” from everything that would distract or defile. The German rendering of Hebrews 12:2 adds richness to this truth, suggesting a turning away from evil in order to gaze single-mindedly on Christ.
The imagery here is both practical and powerful: spiritual eyelashes, like physical ones, shielding our inner vision from what corrupts. It’s not about legalistic avoidance, but about cultivating a life so attuned to the beauty and purity of Christ that we instinctively turn away from what mars our communion with Him.
We live in a world full of visual and spiritual pollution, and many believers walk through life unaware that their spiritual “sight” is being dulled. It isn’t always about willful sin—sometimes even a glance at the wrong thing can leave an internal residue. But the solution is not panic or striving. It is to let our inward gaze rest again on Jesus, who washes and renews us as we look to Him.
✍🏼 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I have made your eyes to see more than the visible. You were not created to be shaped by shadows or dulled by defiled images—you were created to behold My glory. As you fix your eyes on Me, I conform you to My likeness from one degree of glory to another. I do not ask you to guard yourself in your own strength; I have placed My Spirit within you as your shield and your sight.
When you turn your eyes from the world’s enticements and set your gaze on Me, your soul is nourished by My presence. The enemy offers images that leave you restless, empty, and defiled. But I am your portion forever. You were not made to feast on corruption but to reflect the beauty of the One you behold.
When the world flashes its wares, do not be surprised. Simply look back to Me. I am not only the Author of your faith—I am its Perfecter. My joy sustained Me through the cross, and now that joy is yours. Let it fill your heart with such brightness that darkness cannot settle in your soul.
You are being transformed as you look upon Me. Not by effort, but by vision. Not by law, but by love. Lift your eyes—see Me at the right hand of the Father. Your gaze anchors you in grace.

🧼 Real-Life Analogy
It’s like walking through a smoky room with a white shirt. You may not have touched anything dirty, but the air alone leaves a smell that clings. Just stepping outside into fresh air begins to clear it away. So it is with your soul—the moment you step into the gaze of Christ, the residue lifts, and His purity renews you.
🙏🏼 Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that I don’t need to fear the world’s contamination, because You have already given me eyes to see and a heart to turn toward Christ. I rejoice that the gaze of my spirit is not powerless—it anchors me in Your presence and shapes me into Christ’s likeness. I rest today in the joy that sustained Him through the cross and now flows through me by Your indwelling Spirit. You have provided all I need in Jesus, and I fix my eyes confidently on Him.
