Some of us picked up the idea that God is most honored in church moments, while the rest of life sits in a waiting room. A. B. Simpson points in a different direction. He reminds us that Jesus calls the whole of life holy ground, the kitchen as much as the sanctuary, the job site as much as the prayer corner. Thank you, A. B. Simpson, for the steady reminder that grace belongs in the ordinary.
Scripture backs this with a clear voice. Peter learned not to label as unclean what God has made clean. Paul tells us that nothing is unclean in itself, and then takes us into the ordinary, where love is sincere, honor is given, business is diligent, and service is fervent. This is not a call to rush. It is an invitation to present our whole selves to God and let the Spirit make everyday places shine with Jesus’ life.
This is where abiding life comes alive. Union with Jesus means His presence does not switch off when the task looks small. Washing dishes can echo worship. Balancing a spreadsheet can become an altar of trust. Speaking kindly in a tense moment can be a living sacrifice. The Spirit is not waiting at the church door. He is in you, ready to express the life of the Son in each ordinary step.
This freedom asks us to lay down false lines between sacred and secular. The Lord has placed a people, not just a few professionals, across kitchens, shops, clinics, nurseries, and offices. Together we carry His Name into the weekday world. Liberty in Jesus is not license. It is the wide space where love can move, where our lives honor His Name in the small and the unseen.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I have cleansed what you once called common, and I invite you to receive your ordinary as holy in My Son. I call you to present your body to Me, a living sacrifice, and I renew your mind so that you may discern what is good and acceptable. In Jesus you are My workmanship, created for good works that I prepared beforehand. I work in you to will and to do My good pleasure, and I spread the fragrance of the knowledge of the Lord through you in every place.
In the daily, I set your heart on things above where the Messiah is seated. Your life is hidden with Him in Me. Christ in you is the hope of glory. As you abide in Him, you bear much fruit, not by strain, but by life shared. Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the Name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to Me through Him. Whether you eat or drink, do all to My glory.
I form you as a holy nation, a people for My possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of the One who called you out of darkness into light. I train you by grace to say no to ungodliness and yes to self-giving love. I sanctify you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, and I am faithful to complete what I began. Stand firm in the freedom with which the Lord Jesus has made you free, and offer a continual sacrifice of praise, doing good and sharing, for such sacrifices please Me.
Real-Life Analogy
Think about a stovetop simmer. You set a pot on low heat, add ingredients, and let it quietly transform over time. You do not shake the pot every minute. You do not turn the heat to high to hurry the process. You keep the steady flame, and the flavors deepen. In the same way, the Holy Spirit within keeps a steady flame in the middle of everyday tasks. While you type the email, fold the laundry, or review a chart, He brings the life of Jesus to a gentle simmer that changes the whole tone of the moment without fanfare.
Try this today in a small, specific task, replying to a difficult message, finishing paperwork, or cleaning up a shared space. Turn toward the Lord who lives in you and say, Lord, I yield this moment to You, let Your patience and clarity flow through me as I complete this. Then carry on. Watch how peace and honesty rise without white-knuckle effort.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that in Jesus You have already made the ordinary holy. Thank You that Your Spirit lives in me, and that whatever I do can honor Your Name. I gladly present myself to You today. I trust You to express the life of Your Son in my words, in my work, and in my care for others. I receive the liberty You have given, and I walk in love, resting in Your complete provision.
