Psalm 36 paints a tender scene. God’s lovingkindness is not thin or distant. It is near, strong, and welcoming. David calls it precious. He describes people taking refuge under the shadow of God’s wings and being abundantly satisfied with the fullness of God’s house.
Bob Hoekstra’s reflection invites me to think about need and supply. Humanity arrives empty. God meets us with forgiveness and rescue. Even after salvation, we still do not look to ourselves for what only the Lord gives. Thirst remains a reality in a dry and weary land. Yet the One who loves us with steadfast love offers fullness that actually satisfies.
This lovingkindness is not a narrow stream for a chosen few. It is the rich, covenant mercy of the Lord that draws people to trust Him and to rest beneath His care. In Jesus the door to the house stands open. Grace welcomes hungry hearts, and the Holy Spirit makes that grace practical in daily life.
So today is not about straining to be enough. It is about where I turn. The world can only underdeliver. The Lord overflows. Under His wing there is safety. At His table there is plenty. His lovingkindness is the difference between spiritual fatigue and quiet joy.
Journal Entry - Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I draw you under My wing. I am your refuge and your portion. In My presence there is shelter, and under My care you find rest. I open the storehouse of My goodness and seat you at My table. From My fullness you receive grace upon grace. Where guilt once pressed you down, I announce forgiveness and cover your sin. Where fear once narrowed your steps, I become your rock, your fortress, your salvation.
When your soul is thirsty and the land is dry, come to Me for living supply. I satisfy as with rich food, and I teach your heart to sing again. Do not return to empty cisterns. Look to the things above where Christ is. I have blessed you in Him with every spiritual blessing. I fill, I sustain, I keep. Set your trust beneath My wing. Walk with Me and discover that My lovingkindness is better than life.

Real-Life Analogy
At a bakery the shelves fill early with warm loaves. If I try to make breakfast from crumbs at the bottom of my breadbox, I end up disappointed. When I walk to the counter, the baker places fresh bread in my hands, and the house smells alive. God’s lovingkindness is like stepping up to that counter each morning. The indwelling Holy Spirit does not ask me to stretch yesterday’s crumbs. He draws me to the Father’s abundance and gives what I need for today.
Try this. Before you open your inbox or head into a conversation that usually drains you, pause a moment as if you are stepping to the counter. Say, Lord, I rely on You for today’s portion, express Your life through me right now. Then answer the first email with patience, or listen well in that conversation, trusting the Spirit to supply gentle words and a steady tone.
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You for Your steadfast love that shelters and satisfies. In Jesus I am welcomed, forgiven, and supplied from Your fullness. I receive this day as a table You have set. My heart rests beneath Your wing. Lord, I depend on You to show Your life through my words and my work in this moment. Amen.
