Confident in God’s Ongoing Work

God is the faithful builder, completing the good work He began in us until the day of Jesus Christ.

Bob Hoekstra points us today to one of the sweetest promises of God’s faithfulness. Philippians 1:6 assures us that the One who began a good work in us will bring it to completion until the day of Jesus Christ. This promise is more than comfort; it is the very foundation of our confidence as believers. The work of salvation is not left unfinished. What God has begun, He Himself will see through to the end.

Hoekstra reminds us that this work began at our new birth when God made us new creations in His Son. Old things passed away, and all things became new. From that moment, God poured into our lives the immeasurable riches of His heavenly resources, every spiritual blessing in Jesus. Yet salvation is so great that what we have received already is only the beginning. The Lord intends to expand our understanding, shape our character, and deepen our daily experience of what is fully ours in Him.

This promise also reshapes where our confidence lies. Our culture often urges us to believe in ourselves, but that leads only to pride or despair. God calls us instead to place all our trust in Him, for He alone is faithful. We can be confident not in our ability to finish the race, but in His faithfulness to complete the work He began. Such assurance frees us to walk in humble dependence, knowing that the outcome rests on His faithfulness, not our performance.

Finally, this work is not abstract or distant. It touches our daily lives. While God has seated us with Christ in the heavenly places, He is also forming in us a walk that reflects His calling here on earth. This is not behavior modification or self-improvement but God Himself working in us what is pleasing in His sight. His work is thorough, purposeful, and unstoppable. Our confidence rests secure in the hands of the One who completes what He starts.

Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

My beloved, do not doubt the work I am doing in you. The good work that began when you believed in My Son will not be left unfinished. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and My faithfulness guarantees the completion of what I have started.

You are a new creation in Jesus. The old has passed away, and the new has come. You are already blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Do not measure your growth by your strength or your failures, but by My promise. I am conforming you to the image of My Son, and nothing will hinder what I have purposed.

Your confidence must not rest in yourself but in Me. When you are weak, I am strong. When you falter, My Spirit sustains you. I am working in you both to will and to do My good pleasure. What I began, I will finish, and when My work is complete, you will stand blameless in My presence with great joy.

Real-Life Analogy

Think of a skilled builder who lays the foundation of a house. The homeowner might look at the incomplete frame and wonder if the project will ever be finished. But the builder has the blueprints, the tools, and the commitment to bring the structure to completion. In the same way, God is the master builder of your life. He has already laid the foundation in Jesus and will not abandon the project halfway.

Today, when I am tempted to worry about my weaknesses or unfinished areas, I can pause and say, “Lord, I trust You to bring to completion what You began in me. Work through me in this moment, for I rest in Your faithfulness.” That posture keeps me in peace, knowing the Builder is still at work.

Prayer of Confidence

Lord, I thank You that You began a good work in me and You will surely complete it. I rejoice that my life is not left to chance or to my own striving, but is held in the certainty of Your promise. I rest today in the assurance that You are shaping me, growing me, and conforming me to the image of Jesus. My confidence is in You alone, and I gladly yield to Your faithful work in my life.
