Today's reflection from Bob Hoekstra continues from Hebrews 13:20–21, focusing on the beautiful reality that it is God Himself—the God of peace—who equips us for every good work. In the previous entry, we rejoiced that His peace was made possible through the shed blood of Christ, which not only reconciles us to God but also inaugurates the new covenant of grace. That covenant becomes the basis for how we now live—by receiving His provision moment by moment.
But here’s the stunning truth emphasized today: we are not left to manufacture obedience. God doesn’t just forgive us and then send us off to perform. He makes us complete—that is, He equips and furnishes us with all we need to walk in His will. The word “complete” speaks of preparation, alignment, and empowerment. It means He Himself provides every spiritual resource for every spiritual task. There is no pressure to measure up, only a call to depend fully on His life in us.
David echoed this same grace when he declared, “The LORD will perfect that which concerns me.” From worship to witnessing, from service to sacrifice, we rest in this confidence: God equips us to do His will because He is the one doing the work through us.
Yet this provision isn’t automatically experienced—it’s relationally received. We can quench, resist, or grieve the Spirit. That’s why our role is to trustfully yield, coming daily to the Word and responding to His gentle voice. Our sufficiency is not in effort or formula, but in the Person who dwells within us.
✍🏼 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I have not left you to figure out My will on your own, nor do I send you forth with your own wisdom or ability. I am the God of peace, and I equip you from My own fullness. Every work I ask of you is a work I intend to accomplish through you.
You were never meant to muster obedience from your own reserves. That would lead only to exhaustion and discouragement. I supply what is needed—My grace, My strength, My love. I equip you in every good work, not some. I complete what I begin in you. Just as I shaped David to fulfill his calling, so I am perfecting what concerns you.
But you must not look to methods or mimicry. I do not live through formulas—I live through fellowship. Stay near. Let My Word dwell in you richly, not as a rulebook, but as a life-giving stream. Turn to Me not in panic, but in trust. I am the One who works in you to will and to do My good pleasure. Let Me carry that weight.
Let go of your striving and receive My sufficiency. I will make you ready, moment by moment, for every act of love, service, prayer, or sacrifice I’ve set before you. Your completeness is found in Me.

🧺 Real-Life Analogy
It’s like standing in a kitchen ready to cook a meal, only to discover the pantry is already stocked with every ingredient, the recipe is written out clearly, and even the oven has been preheated. All that’s left is for you to say yes to the process. You aren’t the supplier—you’re the vessel through whom the meal is made. God has furnished the kitchen of your life; He just invites you to join Him at the counter.
🙏🏼 Prayer of Confidence
Father, I rejoice that You are not only the Author of my life in Christ but the Finisher as well. You have already made me complete in Him, and I trust that You are fully equipping me for everything You’ve prepared. I no longer look inward for the strength to obey—I look to You and rest in Your grace. Thank You for doing the work in and through me. I simply say yes to You today.
