The picture in today’s reading is simple and stunning. Jesus is the Bridegroom who draws near to people who know they are not qualified. Witness Lee reminds us that our own effort and polish cannot make us worthy for His presence. Isaiah says our best efforts are like a filthy garment. That stings a little, yet it also clears the fog. If worthiness can be sewn by our hands, we will always be tugging at the seams.
Jesus does not ask the unworthy to sew harder. He gives a new garment. The Bridegroom Himself becomes our covering. He seats sinners and tax collectors at His table, not because they finally measured up, but because He clothes them with what they could never weave. That is why the party can begin. The music starts when grace does.
This is not a call to try more. It is an invitation to put on what is already ours in Him. Scripture says we have put on Christ. We are accepted in the Beloved. We have a righteousness not our own, one that fits because it was made by the Righteous One. That is how you and I can sit, rest, and enjoy the presence of Jesus without shrinking back.
So we come as we are, and we come clothed as He is. That new garment changes the way we live. We rise from the table to love, to forgive, to speak with honesty and kindness, not to earn a seat, but because we already have one. Grace wears well in daily life.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
I am the Spirit of the Living God, and I bear witness that you are united to Jesus. I set you in Him so that His life becomes your life. You were crucified with Him, and you now live by faith in the Son of God. Your old measure of worth is gone, and you walk in newness of life.
I clothe you with Jesus. I wrap you in the righteousness of God that is revealed apart from the law and rests fully on His finished work. I remove the stained garments and dress you in garments of salvation and a robe of righteousness. I make you accepted in the Beloved so you may draw near without shrinking. You are mine, and I delight to dwell in you.
You do not stand in your own name. You stand in His. I am your seal and pledge, and I lead you to put off the old and put on the new, created after God in true righteousness and holiness. I teach you to set your mind on things above, where your life is hidden with Christ in God. I form in you the compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience that fit the family you belong to.
So come to the table with confidence. I have prepared you for the Bridegroom’s presence. I guide you to live from union, not from strain. I fill your ordinary moments with holy purpose, and I make your life a quiet testimony that Jesus is enough.
Real-Life Analogy
Think of walking into a nice restaurant in work clothes that are dusty and stained. You would naturally look for a corner seat and keep your head down. Now imagine the owner meeting you at the door with a clean jacket that fits perfectly, placing it on your shoulders, and saying, your table is ready. Once you are covered, you stop worrying about your appearance and start enjoying the meal. In daily life, the Holy Spirit does just that. He places Jesus upon you, and you can move through the day without the constant tug of self-inspection.
Today, as you enter a hard conversation or step into a crowded schedule, pause inside and yield. Say, Lord, I trust You to express Your welcome, Your honesty, and Your patience through me right now. Then walk into the moment as one already seated at the Bridegroom’s table, letting His life in you choose words, tone, and timing. And remember, He not only covers you, He indwells you by His Spirit.
Prayer of Confidence
Lord, thank You that I am clothed with Jesus. Thank You that Your righteousness fits me, Your acceptance settles me, and Your presence steadies me. I affirm that I do not stand in my record, I stand in Yours. I receive the day as one seated at Your table. Lead my steps as Your life flows through me, and let the fragrance of Your grace linger wherever I go. Amen.
