Breathed In to Be Poured Out
The breath sustains; the wind empowers. Both come from Him.

There is a beauty in recognizing the two distinct aspects of the Holy Spirit's work in us: one for being, and one for doing. In John 20:22, after the resurrection, Jesus breathes the Spirit into His disciples—quietly, gently, personally. Witness Lee believes this is the essential Spirit—imparted for their inner life, their spiritual identity, and their ongoing union with Christ. It's intimate and foundational, not for display or performance, but for life itself.
Lee states, then, in Acts 2, a different scene erupts. The Spirit is poured out with power, likened to a rushing wind, and the disciples speak boldly in tongues. This is the economical Spirit—poured out for ministry, for witness, for external demonstration of divine power. It’s the empowering Spirit for action, flowing from the inner reality already given.
We’re often tempted to chase power without first cherishing Presence. But the Lord gives the Spirit for being before He empowers for doing. We cannot move in the Spirit’s power if we have not first received His life. Breathing comes before blowing.
This insight releases pressure from ministry. We are not called to perform for God. We are called to live by Christ’s indwelling life and trust the Spirit to flow through us in power when He appoints it. First breath… then wind.
📓 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
My beloved, I have not left you to figure this life out. I have breathed Myself into you. I am your life. I did not ask you to imitate Me from a distance, but to receive Me into the very center of your being. In My breath, you live and move and have your being. In My Spirit, you walk as one who is born from above.
I am not far off, waiting for your progress. I am in you—forming Christ in you, expressing His patience, His peace, His love. This is the essential gift: the quiet indwelling, the abiding presence, the whisper that sustains your inner life. This is your new creation identity. You are Mine, and I am yours.
But I am not only breath—I am wind. When I move upon you, you will not need to stir yourself up. You will find words coming forth not from effort, but from overflow. Power is not something you reach for—it is something I pour out when the time is full. Wait on Me. Trust Me. Yield to Me. When I move, you will know.
Live every day in the breath, and you will be ready for the wind. Abide in the quiet, and I will carry you into the bold. The power you long for is not achieved, it is released through those already resting in Me.

🌱 Real-Life Analogy
Think of plugging in your phone overnight. The cord doesn’t shake or spark—it just quietly connects. Power flows invisibly to prepare it for use the next day. You don’t question whether it will work; you trust the connection. And when the alarm rings in the morning, you know the power was there all along.
In the same way, abiding in Christ is not always loud or noticeable. It is quiet connection—essential and constant. But when the day’s call comes, and you’re invited to speak truth, show mercy, or minister to someone in need, the power is there. You’re not reaching for it—you’re responding to it.
So today, if you sense a quiet prompting to be patient with a coworker, to call a friend, or to listen instead of react, simply yield. Whisper in your heart:
“Spirit of Christ, I trust You to live Your life through me now. Not in my energy, but in Your indwelling grace.”
🙏 Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that I live today already filled with the life of Christ. You have breathed Your Spirit into me, and in that breath I find my rest, my identity, and my purpose. I will not chase after signs of power or strive to feel strong. I am alive in Christ—Your breath sustains me. And when You choose to pour out power, I will receive it not as a reward but as a flow of Your grace through the life You’ve already given me. I trust You for both breath and wind.
