Being Corrected by the Scriptures

When we return to the Word, the light shines again.

Today’s reflection from Witness Lee takes us back to the journey of the wise men. They had seen the star—a vision from God—and knew the King of the Jews had been born. But when left to their own reasoning, they assumed the child must be in Jerusalem, the capital, rather than trusting the light they had been given. Their natural assumptions led them not only off course but into danger. That misstep didn’t just disrupt their journey; it nearly led to the destruction of the very child they sought, and tragically, to the death of many innocents.

This devotional offers a sobering lesson: even when we have received divine vision, our minds can default to what makes sense in the flesh. Logic and assumptions—though well-meaning—can derail our obedience. Yet there is hope: God’s written Word lovingly corrects us. The Scriptures restored the wise men’s course, and when they were back on track, the star reappeared. Vision and Scripture are never at odds—true vision is always accompanied by, and aligned with, the Word of God.

✍🏼 Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

When I give you a vision, it is meant to be followed with trust—not adjusted by human wisdom. I did not call you to make sense of My guidance through the filter of logic or tradition. My ways are higher than yours, and My thoughts are not limited by your expectations.

The wise men saw My sign, but their hearts leaned on their own understanding. And so they wandered. Their detour caused harm, but I used even that misstep to reveal My faithfulness. I led them back—not by another star, but by My written Word. In Bethlehem, not Jerusalem, My Son waited. And when they trusted My Word again, the light returned.

You are not exempt from this. You’ve received My Spirit, but your mind can still wander into what feels comfortable or likely. That’s why I have placed My Word before you—to realign your thoughts when you stray. It is sharper than any sword and gentle as a whisper. Let it correct you without shame. Let it lead you without delay.

I am not displeased when I need to redirect you. I rejoice when you return to the path of My Son. I do not condemn you when you drift; I call you back with Scripture and Spirit working together, in perfect harmony. Trust Me with every turn. Stay in step with My voice, for I will not leave you in the dark. I light the path with both vision and Word.

🧭 Real-Life Analogy

It’s like using GPS while driving through a familiar area. At first, you follow the voice, but then you think you know a better route and take a different road. Only later, when you hit unexpected traffic, do you check the GPS again—and realize you veered off course. Once you obey the directions again, the route becomes clear and the guidance resumes. The GPS never left you—you simply stopped listening.

🙏🏼 Prayer of Confidence

Father, I rejoice that Your Word always leads me back when I’ve strayed into my own ideas. You are not surprised by my missteps, and You never withhold light when I return to the path. I trust that the vision You’ve given will never contradict Your written Word. Thank You that I don’t have to fear missing Your will when I abide in Christ and stay anchored in Scripture. Even when I’ve leaned on my own understanding, You gently realign my heart. Today, I rest in Your unwavering direction—confident that You are guiding me, step by step, in the way everlasting.
