Real ministry is like wrapping someone in the same warmth that once comforted you.

Today’s reflection from Miles Stanford calls us to soberly consider how we carry the riches we’ve been given in Christ. Just as the newly rich may fumble under the weight of wealth they don't know how to handle, so can believers mishandle the spiritual riches we possess in Christ—drawing from ministry about Him rather than from Him Himself.

T. Austin-Sparks reminds us that true spiritual ministry isn’t crafted from cleverness or theory. It comes from being with the Lord—sharing in His heart, having passed through His school of comfort. The difference is unmistakable: one who’s truly received from Christ gives forth a word that meets the moment, that gently says to the weary, He knows your pain, because He bore it with you.

This devotional speaks deeply to the abiding life: that our adequacy flows not from ministry preparation, but from union with the Person of Christ. Comfort is never mechanical; it is shared. And in this shared life, our wounds become wells from which the comfort of Christ flows to others.

💡 Real-Life Application:
Sometimes we respond to a friend’s pain with rehearsed encouragement or a Scripture verse we once memorized. But other times, we pause and sense Christ’s heart within us—gentle, attentive, and real. We say less, but it reaches more. That’s not us doing ministry. That’s Christ ministering through a vessel acquainted with His comfort.

🕊️ Personalized Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture

I do not give you comfort from a distance—I give it from within. I walk in your tribulations so that you may discover My nearness, not just for yourself but for others. I am the God of all comfort, and I make My comfort known through those who have received it deeply. You don’t have to rehearse the right words; you only need to yield to Me and I will speak what touches the heart.

You are not called to perform ministry but to share in Mine. Let My mercy soak into your own aches, and it will overflow to the one beside you. Ministry that is drawn from communion with Me never misses the mark—it fits, it heals, it lifts. You do not need to reach for something you do not possess. You possess Me. And I am enough.

(Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 1:3–4; Philippians 3:10; Colossians 1:27–29; Galatians 2:20)

🪞 Real-Life Analogy

It’s like wrapping a friend’s shoulders in your own coat on a chilly day. You don’t need to explain the temperature or talk about the wind. You just drape them in the warmth you yourself are already feeling. That’s what it is to comfort from Christ’s life—not theory, but shared covering.

🙏 Prayer of Confidence

Father, I trust You have already given me all I need to walk through sorrow and to walk with others in theirs. Thank You that the comfort I’ve received from You is never wasted. In Your wisdom, You fold my pain into Your purpose and turn every sigh into a song of comfort for someone else. Let me live today not striving to serve, but resting in You—knowing that the life of Christ in me will meet every moment with what is needed.
