This morning’s reading from Abide Above draws us into the liberating truth of Galatians 2:19—we died to the law so we might live to God. While many believers know that the law cannot impart life, far too many still seek to let it govern their walk. But Scripture insists that we are no longer under law, having been crucified with Christ. We’ve been raised to live in a new way—through the indwelling Christ who is full of grace and truth.
The devotional reminds us that God never commands us from the outside in, like a taskmaster, but from the inside out, as a Father who has given us a new heart that loves His ways. Christ is our life, and every word He speaks aligns perfectly with the desires of our new nature. He isn’t mocking us with unreachable standards. He’s revealing how life now works—by trusting the One who lives within us to express Himself through us.
The danger comes when we slide back into legalism, treating our Christian walk as a behavior management system. Legalism keeps the focus on shaping the outer man to a standard, rather than yielding to the inner life of Christ. It exalts the flesh even in its failures. But Scripture is clear: we are not in the flesh but in the Spirit (Romans 8:9), and the Spirit is not subject to law.
So the call today is clear: Stand fast in the liberty with which Christ has made you free. You are no longer governed by rules written on stone but by the indwelling Spirit of the Living God, who writes His desires on your heart. This is not freedom to sin but freedom to truly live.
Journal Entry – Voice of the Holy Spirit Through Scripture
You are Mine, and I dwell in you. I did not rescue you from the law just to place you under a new system of rules. I united you to Myself so that My life could be expressed through yours. The law served its purpose—it exposed the futility of self-effort and pointed you to Me. But now, you are free from the burden of striving and the fear of falling short. You have died, and your life is hidden with Me in God.
When you hear My commands, remember: I am not asking the old you to perform. I am revealing what My life in you delights to do. Every instruction I give flows from grace and is carried by grace. There is no condemnation, no comparison, and no scoreboard. You are free because I have made you free.
If you slip back into the mindset of legalism, you will find it burdensome and cold. But I have not called you to strain—I have called you to abide. When you yield to Me, when you trust Me in the moment, you will find peace where there once was pressure, and joy where there once was judgment.
So walk in liberty today. Walk in Me. Let the fruit of the Spirit flow freely from your union with Me. There is no law against My life expressed through you.

Real-Life Analogy
Imagine being released from a strict, joyless boarding school where every hour of your day was regimented by bells and rules. Suddenly, you’re brought home by a loving parent—not to be given a new list of chores, but to live in relationship. You wake up one morning ready to follow the old routine, only to find that love has replaced law. Your parent doesn’t hand you a schedule. Instead, they invite you to spend the day together—talking, laughing, sharing life. You begin to realize: this is what you were always meant for.
This is how the life of abiding works. We don’t live by checking off external boxes. We live by trusting the presence of Christ within us to guide, stir, and express His life through us.
So when the temptation comes to measure your walk by performance, pause. Yield your moment to the One who lives in you. You might say, “Lord, You are my life. I trust You to express Yourself through me in this conversation, this decision, this moment. I no longer need a rulebook—I have You.”
Prayer of Confidence
Father, thank You that I no longer live under law but under grace. You have joined me to Your Son, and in Him, I am free. I rejoice that Christ is not only my Savior but my very life. His desires are now mine, and His commands are not burdensome because they flow from within. Today, I trust not in my ability but in Your indwelling power. I celebrate this liberty—not as license to sin, but as life in the Spirit. Thank You for making me truly free.
